Missing a little bit here and there until those grubby injectors cleaned themselves out.
Oil pressure came straight up, lifters quietened down and the thing sat at smooth 1400rpm, alternator output 13.85v, clutch disengaged easily and gears select and thing moves a bit under its own steam for the first time in over 6 months!!!!!!...Yeeeeeharr!
Wow, that's great! So much work and it's finally running, cool! 8)

Too bad about the turbo bearings though... well, when you get the turbo fixed/replaced I'm eager to see some video footage of the beast! :D

Had another play with the VG30det this arvo.
All sorts of noise and shit going on.

I found the reason for the turbo failure as well..............not happy Jan!

Id had Enzed make me a banjo fitting with an threaded AN flare union on the end to attach the braided hose to.
They have brazed the union on the end of the banjo fitting and have thoughtfully brazed up the oil feed hole in the banjo as well.....................

See, I never checked it... never even occurred to me to check it.... and all i did was loosen the braided line to check for oil pressure there when i first fired it up. Oil pissed out so i presumed all was well and just did it up again.

You dont expect the actual banjo fitting to be welded up tho...... arrrgh!

Anyway, I found whats left of the turbine wheel.......... sitting about 1500mm away piled up in the CAT!!!!!!!!!!
Luckily, 1: I have a bolt in cat and 2: I havent run it far or hard and most of the small bits fell out of the cat core.

Ah shit. That is an expensive mistake. And its ALWAYS that sort of shit that trips me up... I feel for you there.

What are you going to do? Get some standard replacements or go and get some rebuildable aftermarket? They have those aftermarket chinese jigga turbos pretty good these days. and all of the garret re-build kits fit into them.

I am about to probably have to do something similar, as my over-oiled skyline turbo is on its last legs.

Regards,

Darren.
Race it.

Yeah i have seen those KKR turbos give some pretty good results, the old
HPI project skyline had one of those as a replacement for some old IHI
turbo and it made considerably more power and came on too boost much
earlier if i can remember. I think it was the KKR380 that they used, and
they are incredibly good value, they can be picked up for around $800
brand new. Actually i think kimmo has one on his exa.

Jettet
Hehehehe, I still very seriously consider your blower M8, but i just cant be bothered right now with the effort of fabricating up a bloody watsegate setup and piping.
Im well over fabrication at the moment.......
iffen it had an internal gat then we'd dance!

I have another BB cored thing off an R33(RB25) which i got for 50 bucks so that will do in the short term.

Hi M8
All good M8. Thanks for the offer! I have a replacement internally gated thing on its way as we speak.
The old FJ got sold off down here destined for a Mk1 Esky 2 door but the project never lifted off and the motor got sold to another dude who fitted it to a plain white Nissan Navara flat tray ute.

AFAIK, its on the mainland now. Ive seen it around on Boost cruising.

T66 Is Here

Post by tassuperkart »

I got the digicam back finally and I took a pix of the old T3 that shat itself.

That pile of black shit on the floor to the left of the turbo is the remains of the turbine wheel that managed to make its way out the back of the turbo and down into the cat!

Image

Anyway, bygones! Heres a couple of pix of the new animal.
Ive done a quick test fit and it all sneaks in nicely despite the considerably bigger compressor!

The oil drain is identical but I have to alter the dump to suit the V-band style of pipe connection and to loose the old external wastegate pipe. Oh well!
