mt 8 question
mt 8 question
iv aquired a microtech unit (blue) mt8 with tune for CA18DET
i was told somewhere that the triggers and such were the same for an e15et...
there for it could be used minus such n such....?
i know these cant be reflashed but can anyone shed somelight here?

did you get teh ignition module with it? It will work but "I THINK" you need to run coilpacks and input the CAS setting for the E15et. We used a MTX8 for a an sr20 on an e15et without any issues but used a wasted spark setup not stock dizzy

X4 Microtech is by miles the cheapest PTU option.
Hyundai Excell twin output coils will develop enough spark to blow your fingers clean off and cauterise the ends to stop bleeding.
You'll obviously need a loom to power the unit up M8 unless you want to get all ghetto like and go poking live wires into the connectors.
Make sure you dont get them wrong or you just lost your ecu in a puff of smoke..
If you have to ask which pins to get 12 volt into then DONT attempt it.

i fugured that E i do need a loom....
ok, so can you help....?
obviosly iv got the computer..... tuned for CA... with cable and hand unit
i need the following
- Loom ( does for what engine matter?)
- Mtech X4 / Hyundai excel ignition coil
anything else or can someone help me with piecing this together?

New looms are exxie. 150 +
X4's are cheap compared to using 2 x 2 channel Bosch "200" triggers
Excell coils are worth bugger all from wreckers.
Microtech website might be a good place to start dont you reckon dude.
Id say ur unlikely to find a S/H loom.
Ive seen X4's on Ebay from time to time.

Well pretty close.
You cant "set" the ecu for optical cas because it already IS and is a factory only setting. Its caught so many dudes out who buy a seemingly cheap ECU off some rotor guy and then get stiffed twice that to have it "re-programmed" to suit whatever application they bought it for.
Microtech charge a shitload to change something that is universally user changeable on EVERY other programmeable ECU available.
You can just alter the Cas offset and TDCref to cas to suit the e15. All this does is ensures the thing sparks when the rotor is pointing at a plug lead and the timing is approximately the same when the dissie is centered.
The CA tuning is unlikely to run too well being 375 cc injectors on a 1.8 v's 270's on a 1.5.
Before you change ANY fuel map settings, just make the engine run using the global mixture trim to make fuelling changes.
Just hold it as best you can at around 2 grand or so and adjust the fuel with the global trim adjustment ONLY until it runs smoothly.
If you cant determine whether the engine is rich or lean initially then the job is beyond you K.
After that, youll find it should run quite well.
Microtech tuning scheme is a reasonably agricultural planar adjustment where you cannot ramp up or down fuelling depending on RPM and so just hold rpm between 3 and 4 grand when making changes in a particular map range.
You only have High speed cruise trim and WOT enrichment to play with to account for trimming fuel outside the 3 to 4 grand range.
With a little patience and a quiet road with a long steep hill somewhere out of the way you will be able to get your low load maps pretty close.
If you have a WBo2 display and controller, then knock urself out but if you are relying on the ego display on the handpiece then be extremely wary. They are nothing more than a basic indicator. use it to get around 12.5 if you dare!!!
Youve been warned. Have fun!

ok, so
loom,
igniter
coils
and tune
only thing that confused me is the x4 is an igniter....
and the MT8 ecu is internal igniter.... am i missing something?
im guessing the X4 is spliced into the ignition part of the loom
therefor allowing seperate coil packs to control the spark and have the distributor blanked off effectivly only being a CAS.... with the X4 as the brain for ignition...

OK I did a research on this for a LT8s and i spoke direct to Microtech and they told me that they need to program the ECU to the X4. So they said to send them money (around $550) and send them the ECU. they will send you the ECU preprogrammed and the X4 and its loom and 4 Bosch coils.
well thats as much as I know cos I aint game to fuk around wif it myself.

Nah Dex, he has a MT-8 of a CA18 which already has multi-coils.
Now, MT ecus DO NOT have internal triggers.
Only the LTX series ecus have them.
The "igniter" AKA "trigger", "PTU" (Power Transister Unit) and plenty other names are just fancy names for that little transistor can thingo attached to the stock coil which has a pair of wires plugged into and connected to the coil with blue wires.
The PTU is switched by trhe ECU and it handles the task of switching the coil current on and off.
The X4 box is just 4 of those little transistor thingies in a box (hence X4)
It connectes to the ECU and then goes on to connect to the coils.

Oh got it, thanks for the push in to where this is going. I didnt mention that I have the LTX.tassuperkart wrote:Nah Dex, he has a MT-8 of a CA18 which already has multi-coils.
