Callumgw wrote:mmm, actually....I've been test driving a few cars lately and because of 6 speed boxes found myself constantly looking at the stick map. MAINLY to find reverse. The old 5 speed pattern is easy, but would you realise if theres a dog leg first or reverse by 1st? and where is reverse in a 6 speed?
I get the need for a map, even if you know where the clutch is and how to use it, but don't reckon it's worth a defect.

Yeah and when you jump in a Datsun Stanza '79 with a 5 speed, the Gearbox is laid out reverse is where first is and all gears are moved on over one, So 1st is where 2nd is normally and so on.... Good gearbox BUT fk was it had to ge use to. i'd be slowing down and chage to 2nd, (thinking it is 3rd cos where it is) and think i need to go down one more gear. Done that a few times, compression lock the diff, All fun till your in 1st thinking your not and almost pop her into reverse.... Crunch goes the gears...

Yeah and its to do with the increase in air flow, so increase in performance power "making it more powerful and harder to control" Also they (cops) claim that if you do have a pod, its boxed in so it doesn't catch on fire and bur your engine bay... I have heard that one.unique_ET_N12 wrote:Its a emissions law isn't it??? like your not allowed head breathers(filters) on etc.. a pod causes more air than factory into the engine thereby more emissions coming out your exhaust....
It depends on who pulls you over and what they say. I've heard of many diif reasons for a simple mod, even a bigger exhaust " its a bit big...." "what do you mean? it passed Blue Slip (in depth Road worthy NSW)" "its unacceptable!" "?????" (Stupid cop didnt know what he was on about. Plus it did get passed by a LAWN MOWER MAN!!!!)

Hahah in melbourne it's fucked, I got a defect in my vr a few weeks ago. It was a standard defect down here, too low, bald tyers, steering wheel too
small and not padded and battery loose. That is the standard defect for a commonwhore driver, when they pull u over in an et turbo it's either " WTF is this thing??" and not bother defecting you OR the do what they did to ET87 and find that the normal detectable items like mine arnt a problem so they start going for stupid shit like a gearknob sticker or on person I heard of who got done for having a mugen badge on his civic because it was a distraction to other drivers lol

Over here you usually get defected for an aluminum spoiler (cops claim it would chop off a pedestrian's head if the pedestrian flies over your roof), too loud exhaust, improper tire and rim sizes (using other sizes than what's shown in your car's registration papers), and things like that. But never for anything of the kind that's been mentioned at this thread.

That sounds very reasonable! This rule of thumb probably applies all over the planet.

dude qld is fucked! new rules man...Andjeti wrote:It's pretty good up here (Qld). As a general rule, if it looks like, or you drive it like, it should be defected. You will be. If it looks neat, and you drive sensible, you should be fine. There are always exceptions though.
if u get a defect, no matter how minor, you go to court.
get caught again, same car or different car even if it isnt yours, the car gets impounded for 48 hours and you get another date with a judge.
get busted a 3rd time, and the car you're driving gets a 3 month holiday and you're off to the courthouse again.
etc etc
it's nasty and pointless and a complete waste of resources but we're easy targets and an easy source of income......

Yeah, sounds probable... I don't think pod filters catch fire so easily with EFI systems. I'd say it happens more easily with carbs (backfiring) and short induction piping so the flames can reach the filter.Kimmo wrote:As for the pod having to be shrouded, I was pretty sure it was a noise thing.

yeah they released his car now.
would be a different story if it was one of our cars....
but the lambo was impounded under the hooning laws, not the defect laws, the mechanic was speeding excessively (probably managed to get to 2nd gear haha).
