I did a battery relocation on the "ute of death" today.
This is to make way for the intercooler core which was living down behind the radiator bit interfered too much with airflow thru the radiator causing some overheating in traffic.
There was nowhere else I could comfortably fit the cooler core so the battery went under the flat tray like this.
I fabricated that battery bracket up from some 20 x 20 x 3.2mm mild angle i have laying around.
I inserted crush tubes thru the chassis rail and the tray rail sos the bolts did not squash the rails when tightend up.
This pix was takne from down below the level of the battery but when you look at the ute from the side the battery is not really that obvious where it sits.
Next was to run some decent cable in some insulation tubing along the chassis rail and up into the engine bay.
I got one of those funky multi connectors the ICE guys use for power distribution to splice up the battery cables and to provide for the other accessories previously ganged up messily on the old +ive battery terminal.
I soldered the ends of all the cables with a big fuckoff 100w iron I have sos the grub screws dont squash and cut thru the cable core as well.
Kinda neatens things up a bit done with this connector block.
I can move the power steering reservoir back to the next set of holes in the inner guards to make further room for the cooler core but i will need to change the way the power steer pump high pressure discharge hose exits the pump. A bit of an arse but easily dooable as I have another style of banjo bolt union which will work nicely.
I also have a Falcon AU radiator twin fan/shoud assembly coming which is exactly the same size as the navara radiator. This should cure any airflow issues when stooging around in traffic.
Next then will be the cooler core back in where the battery used to be, fit the bigger injectors and boost the thing up and do some skids!

sounds random but thought about spraying the battery saturn black to make it a little more subtle sitting underthere? just a thought ... i sprayed the washer bottle in the s15 like that cause you could see it through the front bar and now you cant notice it ... worth a thought!

Yep.
I might make a nice battery cover up out of thin sheet and bolt it on,
The natter being bright yellow sticks out like dogs balls!!!!!!! When I first made up the bracket i tested it with a black battery and it didnt look that obvious!!!

Nice work! Sort of looks like a stock battery arrangement, I like it! Tidy cable work in the engine bay too!

Thanks gents!
I make no secret of my fondness for the "rat" look but it seemed pretty "in-ya-face", specially in the pix!!!
It looks much neater in real life!!!
Thing is, the more I look at it the more I like the naked/truck/rat look Gopulsar mentions!!!!!!!
I might just live with it for a while but i still think Ill make a thin sheet cover much the same as its big-truck big brother is!!!!!
Oh yes, as an aside, I took it to work this morning in the rain....Yes, it spins up the tyres in ALL the gears in the wet and is a bit disconcerting when it lights up at 110k's and then unloads and goes sideways in 5th....whoa-back there!!!!

Baaaahahahahahahah Gopulsar..............cunt!
Your right tho. I am looking well forward to getting the traction control up and running.
Specially since this sucker will be boosted up to about 16psi on the hooligan switch! It should happily produce about 300Kw at the treads which will be a fair major handful in the DRY let alone the wet!!!!!!

battery
Hey Evan,
Thats a neat and clean job on the battery there.
Are you worried about someone stealing the battery? That setup on trucks is fine, because truck batteries aren't attractive to crack banging drugos. But your setup could be.
I see $150 worth of battery there for someone to knock-off while you and your wife enjoy a movie at cinema.....just a thought.
I am sensitive to this at the moment as my car keeps getting vandalised in the shitty Northern suburbs...My VQ statesman currently has no side repeaters on it anymore, drivers door is keyed (WHY do people do this)and the fuel cap is broken where they tried to steal fuel, but realised its on LPG!! silly f@cks.
Maybe a simple nylex nut on the hold-down, just so they at least need tools to do it?
Darren.
