Yeah, I kind of agree... those are recycled rubbers and look like shit for one, but two; the wheels are 13 inches. The tires have the stock 155/80 measurements. Putting low profile tires would require a readjustment of the speedo needle due to decrease in total wheel radius.

For next summer, I will be putting my current 155/80 yokohama summer rubbers on these wheels, hoping to be able to order a set of stock 14-inch Pulsar ET wheels for the following summer (the yokohama rubbers will be getting old by that time anyway). These Zona wheels will then be put on my sister's N12 instead, she loves old-school wheels with high profile. :)

Don't get me wrong though; I like the looks of the Zona wheels as well. Proud to have a set of those! 8)

It's about time for an update!

A few things have happened lately:

In December I was contacted by a UK club magazine called Total Nissan, they wanted to make an article about my car. This was a chance of my life, so I accepted! The article can be found in the January-February 2012 issue (23) of Total Nissan magazine [www.totalnissan.co.uk]. Thank you very much, Total Nissan! Your interest in my car is very appreciated! 8)
(note: due to copyright issues, I cannot present the article to you guys. You need to buy the magazine to see it.)

In the middle of December, my almost brand new alternator broke down; it started producing a crazy overvoltage. My voltage gauge readout was off the scale (more than 18 volts!), and one headlight burned out. The interior fan was running quite a bit faster than usual and all the dashboard lights were a lot brighter than usual. Knowing that the alternator was still under warranty, I disconnected the alternator and drove off to the car parts shop where I had bought it. Fortunately they had a replacement unit for me, so I swapped out the broken one for the replacement unit right in the parking lot outside the parts shop. (I had to pay for the replacement unit first and got my money back when I returned the broken unit about 30 minutes later).

In January, I had to take the car to its yearly MOT, as always. Verdict: pass. No negative remarks, only positive remarks by the fascinated MOT engineer. :)

Beginning from late February, I have been working on the Zona Spoke 9 - wheels. Cleaning and polishing. I've finally reached a stage when I can start re-painting the black areas of the wheels. Masking the wheels up for painting took me almost an hour per wheel. I'm now waiting (7 days!) for the primer to harden up before I can start painting the layers of black.

And this week I noticed that the rear part of the exhaust is rotting away badly and needs to be completely replaced. Since I have a 2" front muffler, the exhaust size on the rear part will now go up from 1 3/4" to 2". The old exhaust was created by a local mechanic (who sadly died of a heart attack in 2008, the man wasn't even 60 years old!) back in 2006 using the OEM pipes. So in order to make the mufflers fit, the local mechanic had to create quite a few step-down adapters. Now I don't need any adapters apart from the 2" -> 60mm adapter for the cannon muffler, it'll be 2" all the way from the front muffler to the cannon.

Alright, the new rear exhaust is created! The exhaust is more silent and at the same time it has a deeper tone. It also got back some sharpness in the tone, surprisingly. The drone at 3000 rpm is not as loud as before, and as a bonus the exhaust has a deep purr starting at 1750 rpm and going down all the way to idle. :D

A friend of mine did the cutting and welding. We could have altered the angle of the last 45 degree bend instead of creating another bend, but we didn't think about it at the time and we were both running out of time. The exhaust sounds good and does its job well, it has no leaks, so I have nothing to complain about. :D

I have no clue as to why the (now deceased) mechanic had put a flex pipe on the rear part of the exhaust...

Time for some BLAAAAACK! Oh, and some silver, too. The wheels are carefully masked, only the vent areas inside the spokes will be black when I take off all the masking (I hope). I ran out of black paint so I will have to finish the fourth wheel next weekend.

Alright, one wheel is just about ready for clear coat! The other wheels still need some work but I'm getting very close to finishing the wheel project. 8)

I got two more wheels done on Sunday, I'll be spraying clear coat on all four wheels this weekend (the fourth wheel just needs a little bit of polishing before it's ready for clear coat).

Alright! The wheels are finally done! Now I have to trial fit them to the car to do a last check that the tires won't rub against anything, then it's time to fit my last year's summer tires onto the wheels (as well as balancing them). It's not warm enough to use summer tires over here yet, we still have snow and ice on the ground, but I'm pretty sure it'll all melt within the next few weeks.

I've finished the wheel project! My Yokohama S760 rubbers are mounted onto the wheels, and I've attached the wheels to the car. I washed the car after taking these photos but by the time I was finished washing the car, the sun had already gone below the horizon and it was too dark to take better photos. And today it's raining... but here's a first glimpse of the car with the new wheels on.

Thanks!

Yeah, the headlight wipers were stock equipment here in the Nordic countries. I did a bad paintjob on them so the paint has already started to flake off. I also lack one wiper arm bolt cover, going to fetch one from the junkyard next time I go there.

How's that E15ET project going?

I have one too in my garage.

Missing exhaust manifold and MS, fuel pump, and E16 rods.

It's on hold for a while; I need to finish my studies and get a job (already during my studies) so I can continue. Out of money at the moment...
