Damo's ET
Yea, I remember the same GA conversation coming up a couple of times before also. The most thorough one from memory had someone comparing head gaskets (which I still have the pictures of) but I don't know if there was a actual GA head to match the E15 gasket to. This time I have the head in hand to match with the block, have a bit of and idea which galleries and returns I need to either get welded up or piped externally, and am not fussed about trying to convert the cog sprockets to cam sprockets (which I think was the ultimate downfall of the previous 'attempts'). We all crave a simple RB30 fashion bolt on, but that aint gonna happen.
A complete powertrain swap would end up being the best for reliability and possibly time consumption, but I don't have the luxury of having a complete QG donk and tranny. Besides, I'm a stubborn bastard who wants a E15DET badge on the back of the testicle!

Small update with the QG to E comparo,
The QG has the exact same head bolt holes, so in essence, the QG head will "Bolt" onto the E series block, without taking a look at the galleries or oil feeds.
So, first hurdle overcome. The head physically WILL bolt to the block! YAY.

Did some playing at the olds yesterday.
I bolted the head to the block, there is a slight miss match of the bolt holes to the tune of probably .5mm across the width of the head. I am able to get the 4 outer bolts in, which causes the inboard 6 to just miss, or working from the middle, am able to get all 6 inboard ones in, then by giving the head a wiggle I can get 2 of the outer bolts on one side to take. So either way, I will need to hone the bolting holes a smidge. As can be seen from the pics, the centering of the head will be crucial, as it looks as though the inlet valves past very close to the bore on cyl#1 and exhaust on cyl#4.
I have resigned to the fact that I won't be able to get any factory Nissan sprockets to do the job. The original plan was to try two E15 cam sprockets, but there is not enough between the cams or room in the casing to mount them. Even two jack pump sprockets are too big! So I had a search online and found a mob who do sprockets for machinery. I am able to get 13 tooth 3/8 square belt 3/4 or 1" wide with the corresponding 2 x 26 tooth 3/8 blah blah blah for less than $100. Then i would need to source a belt which fits.
Quite a few oil passages and water galleries will need to be blocked off and re-drilled, but damn its good to see that head on the E series block!

The car will go, I will stay to annoy you all. Besides, when Glen takes it ,it will remain in the N12 family.
