tyre and wheels size question

Post by EA-73-XA »

yes ive done a bit of research, i did the search option and didnt really get the answer i was lookin for,

i have a choice to purchase a set of 17 inch wheels

tyres are as follows:

2x 235-45
2x 225-45

im feeling the tyres are maybe a lil too big?

can they fit of is it worth the smaller tyres ( they do need them ;))

so what do u suggest?

I have 215's and they are slightly too big. 205's are the go. If you have the choice - which I didn't.

definately 205s
but what is your offset, that's important...

any higher than +40 and you will have issues.
even with +40 you usually need a spacer which is illegal
and if you have fat shocks then your wheels most likely will not clear it.

get a lower offset if at all possible. you will find that wheels for s13 silvias come in better offsets.

I have 17x7 wheels, 205/40 tyres, anything bigger and you will have dramas, If you have bigger shocks then don't stress, I had stock shocks in the rear, Then upgraded to monroe gas shocks and they are fairly thicker, there is about 4-5mm gap between the inner wheel and shock, That's using a 5mm spacer, I've rolled the front and rear guards and it doesn't seem to scrape, You tend to get a tiny bit of scraping in the front when you turn full lock as it will rub on the plastic inner guard between the wheel arch and engine bay but fark it, It's plastic it wont hurt, Also cut the lip of the trailing arm and re-weld the seem..Takes fark all time to fit them, If you want pics of how much room you have to work between wheel and shock etc.. let me know

i run a 17" by7" wheel with a 35 offset and 205*40* and i have some minor scrubbing on the rear guards nothing a gaurd roll won't fix. and a slight massage of the rear control arms and presto sweet fit! no spacers needed. i have Koni shocks and have not needed to cut the dust cover or move the shock. the 35 offset is spot on for a 7" wide wheel with 205 rubber.
