will the n12 NA motor still work as a turbo motor ??
as the subject says. can i just use the n12 na motor and switch all the essentials
my motor either through rings/head gasket or valve stem seals. smokes a ton once warm and oil slightly milky ( i mean SLIGHTLY ) top layer and oil cap.
i am having tons of problems finding a decent block and head to replace this motor. Is it possible to use the NA block and head ??
Thanks in advance guys

haven't found a suitable NA motor yet. but there are a few on offer around town here.
dropping compression shouldn't be a problem - i can just use the e15et pistons ( i think ).
as far as i know .. apart from having a huge compression ( which can be fixed ) the only other difference is that turbo oil feed return line which will need to be drilled out.

Yeah thats what i am hoping ... lolchezza wrote:So what your saying is that if you just drill the block for the feed and drain.
Bobs ya uncle lol
unless you can think of something that i am missing
Damo wrote:He had custom forged pistons with re-jigged piston pins to drop crown height in the bore, because he had the extra throw of the E16 crank. You will need to do similar if you don't change the N/A rods for the turbo rods.mystic_20_2000 wrote:Awesome - i might have to back off the boost though - i dont think 15 PSi and a 9.?:1 compression ratio is a good idea on a stock puter.
Neo - ( see readers rides ) did something similar as far as i can remember, he started off with the stock Astra motor. and it was a scarey car.

Re: n/a
i know that its not easy going from a NA pulsar ( as a complete car ) to a Turbo because you need the fuel lines upgrade the brakes and the ECU and harness.chezza wrote:I didn't think it was as easy as that mate.
i dont think there is too much more than - compression, oil feed return. if anyone else out there that can shed more light on this it would be really handy.
how bout it moderators ??

Nope, but it's got the "bump/mold/whatever" for it so it may be possible to drill a hole there and attach the necessary parts.photoglossy wrote:you will need an oil return into the sump. Im not sure if the NA block has a turbo oil feed in the back.

in all honesty dude these cars are shit but they have so much character, are fun and go fairly well when running right. we still play around with these things because they are a fun addictive little shitbox! - Ash

thats what i was thinking, drill out the hole. or weld a new fitting into the sump itself so i dont have to dick around if i need to replace the block.TurboZ.Dude wrote:Nope, but it's got the "bump/mold/whatever" for it so it may be possible to drill a hole there and attach the necessary parts.
ET pulsar bits are getting harder and harder to find cause we all keep blowing them up, lol. Just thought the N12NA would be a cheaper and more readily available alternative. the wrecker here has 2 sitting in his yard in ok condition.

Dicking around is probably the more durable alternative even if it requires more work. Don't wear yourself out though. Just kidding hehehe... partially.mystic_20_2000 wrote: thats what i was thinking, drill out the hole. or weld a new fitting into the sump itself so i dont have to dick around if i need to replace the block.
Yep, you're probably right.mystic_20_2000 wrote:ET pulsar bits are getting harder and harder to find cause we all keep blowing them up, lol. Just thought the N12NA would be a cheaper and more readily available alternative.
