Castrol Edge
Have any of you tried it?
I'd like to know how it went... I use Motul 4100 turbotight at the moment and wanna know how 5w30 EDGE performs in comparison.
May be a bit thin for our cars?
What are your views on it?

Hey, I always used Mobil 1 in my last Exa, and in all my Rotaries inc. the turbo one. I was intending on using it in this car, but, I've seen the Castrol Edge thing on the web **http://www.castroledge.com.au/edge.html** and I'm considering using it now. Check out some of the tech tests they did and the figures they quote.

Yeah, i got this site through work, and we got brocures about all the performance claims and power figures etc. The problem for me is that for all the tests i way they used the oil in a genIII Commonwhore. I Just need to know if it would be suitble for the larger oil veins in the E15ET.
Ill have another look around that site now to see if i can find any more info
Cheers

I'd like to think that a healthy E15ET is a better engine than a GENIII, so if that oil can hold the GEN III together then it can only be good for the E15ET.

Depends on your definition of "extremely cold conditions" I guess.......

I think that 5w is too light for our engines, i noticed my engine was a little noisier when using BP Visco 5000 (5w), now i either use Corse Plus 25w (racing) or Visco 3000 15w (general driving). Also when i had the 5000 in, that was when a ring land broke on 2 of my pistons, probably a coincidence ...

Yep iv always used HPR15, seems to love it, not too heavy, not too light, just right

That Castrol Edge 5w-30 oil will run just fine.
Ive run it in the e15 in the past and it performs well. No smoke.
It performs well enough to use in my air cooled VW1200 race engine which have wider running clearances new than what would be considered totally fucked in an E-15 and it performs just fine.
Just dont make the same mistake i did and run a set of new rings and lightly honed barrels with full synthetics in practise and qualifying.........glazed like a bastard.
I think its quite fair to say that the handbooks reccommendations were written in a time of much lower spec mineral oils and would be largely discounted today with the ready availability of affordable and high quality synthetics.
I used to run BP Visco 5000 for quite some time in both the ET and in the FJ20et and for whatever reason this oil does not seem to perform well.
Significantly higher than usual oil consumption and frequent turbo smoking is the norm. Shame really as it affordable full synthetic oil.

Since my last post I've put EDGE in our 5 litre commodore, and it's seems to be really good.
Not sure if it's my imagination, but running noise seems to be reduced, and it seems to rev out a little quicker. But this could be simply because it's new oil too.
We did a drive to the Gold coast and back and it didn't miss a beat, oil pressure is great & oil temp is stable.
