YEAH, BABY
So today I finished the engine swap, and fired her up... kicked over first time : D
Only forgot to tighten one hose clamp and an engine mount bolt : ) ...I think
So I've still gotta get some tyres, fit the exhaust (hope I can find the damn mounts), and chuck the dash in, but it's pretty much together.
Oh yeah, this car has a tiny bit of crash damage I have to get an oxy onto before I can mount the front bar properly... no big deal. And I noticed it needs another rust repair in the front of the left sill : (
Then it's time to get a RWC... prolly need to stick a standard exhaust on and do something about the pod filter... fingers crossed I don't have to stuff around too much.
But yeah, it's all downhill from here... fucken stoked : D

in all honesty dude these cars are shit but they have so much character, are fun and go fairly well when running right. we still play around with these things because they are a fun addictive little shitbox! - Ash

Re: YEAH, BABY
I may have spoken too soon... I assumed I might get one or two electrical hassles once I put in the dash; turns out I have a few.Kimmo wrote:it's all downhill from here
#1 hassle is that the 'amp guard' feature of my Clarion stereo is kicking in due to a short somewhere, preventing me from enjoying tunes while I work : (
Then I have no left headlight/high beam. Or indicators, although the hazards work (indicator stalk's good)... no reverse lights either. Or left tail light... hopefully that's just unplugged.
And finally, it draws 0.35A when it's switched off, which seems a bit high... something going on there.
It's electrical PITA time, dammit : /

Darn... good luck, I hope you get the problems fixed!
BTW, the exhaust manifold looks interesting!

Ah, darn. I couldn't see that from the photo.Kimmo wrote:Yeah, it's interestingly close to the intake pipe... and puts the turbo interestingly close to the radiator.

At least I figured out the stereo... it was saying 'amp grd' when I went to adjust the volume; googling that told me this 'amp guard' message meant I had a short in some speaker wires. Disconnected em (there was no short), still got the message. Googled again, found it could also mean the amp was dead. Realised there was no way Cashies would make good on the warranty, cause the arseholes put a sticker on the unit saying they'd only honour it if it was installed professionally. Opened it up, and got the number off the amp chip, googled again, found a data sheet for a similar chip. Pin 25 was diagnostics, so I cut it. Bingo, message gone, volume changes happening, but still no sound. Got some headphones out and put alligator clips on the plug, and found preamp signal on the four input pins while the deck played some MP3s off the USB. Googled again, but Jaycar nor RS had the part. Called up Clarion, who have it for $37 on the other side of town, which I found out at 4:20, like ten minutes before they shut.
Went today and score the chip for $30, picked up an oxy set while I was at it. Fixed the stereo, and the bent bit so I could bolt the bumper back on.
Not much else to do apart from fix these damn electrical glitches... the horn works, so that leaves the headlight, indicators, reverse lights and demister.
At least I'll have tunes while I work...

Decided to slap it together so I could drive it out onto the gutter to mount the exhaust... and now it doesn't fire. Fucking.
I dicked around wiggling this and unplugging and re-plugging that, and got it to kick over, but then it wouldn't go again and I have NFI what it was... only that it's intermittent and invisible, and kills the ignition.
FFFFFFFFUUU...

Darn... perhaps the electrical problems are all related somehow (except for the stereo, obviously)? Such as a short-out somewhere, or an earthing issue?
