Ok, so im a bit confused now, i thought about it
I realy wanted to build up the exa to be a normally aspirated 9000rpm monster but is it worth it i mean, spending a ass load of money on the head, throttles, getting around 170kw atw, if im lucky, and a 1/4 mile time of 13-14 seconds, or i can leave the head and intake completely stock, just change the bottoms to some forged bits and get twice the power with a turbo, easely and safely without reving the engine to its limits. I can get a time of 10-11seconds mabye better, and the car can still be driven everyday at low boost. The turbo is not going to work out as much as N/A as i can turbocharge it myself, and i can always upgrade stuff on the turbo conversion, not on a N/A engine. Im confused now, a bit of help and advise would be much appreciated.

pretty much every one will answer with TURBO THE FUCKER lol but in your shoes you will have to look at cash remeber that you have a bigger motor in there....as it is with standered motors we are struggling for turbo space and cooling capacity as well as reliability

What you said about low comp depending on the boost and turbo lag, i dont want that, i still want to be able to drive everyday with the car at low 0.5 - 0.7bar boost (comfortably) without having to wait for boost i can imagne how iritating that can be.
I've heard that the Mazda FE3n head is one of the best flowing dohc heads around, do you think its realy nesesery to have a port and flow job done?
Im also worried about space, With the mazda engine, its realy limited. but anythings possible hey

Im in the same boat there mate im nt to shore about the high or low comp bit only thing i know it that i was told not to expect losta boost or reliability from a high comp setup mate
10:1 sounds like a lot for a turboed engine... dunno how much you can bring the comp down with a thick gasket... wonder if you could have your pistons machined down a bit? I'd guess you'd want about 8.5:1... what octane is premium juice where you are? Is it widely available?
I doubt you'd need to port the 16v head. The turbs will give you plenty of grunt so even if it doesn't make more power all the way to 9000 anymore, you prolly won't miss wringing its neck to make mumbo.
Another possible complication is what your engine management will make of boost... I guess a MAP sensor should handle it okay.

IMO 10:1 is a tad high i'd try for at least 9:1 with good fuel and am not sure about your factory ecu but think the same as Kimmo with a MAP sensor. i wouldn't bother touching your head either dude.
and for space, there have been a few SR20DET N12 installs so i am sure you could jam a turbo on your FE3. my guess is you'd have to sit it behind your head.

Isn't there any Mazda engine you can get shorter piston rods off? You can't boost much with a comp ratio like that.

I have a aftermarket stand alone fuel management system. ill just go to the tuning shop that supplied the FMS and talk to the guy, im sure the current one can handle the turbo
I can get forged rods for the engine that are 2mm shorter for lower compression, is it enough to lower the comp to 9:1, ill post the link, and im going to get forged Wiseco pistons. Going to take longer to finish, money, but rather safe than sorry A good quality head gasket, standard head bolts, i've heard they can handle boost quite well.
So i dont need to do anything to the head, ill just clean everything, take apart the lifters and give them a good clean, i've done it about 5 times clean the valves, put everything toggether and wrap it up so no dust gets in till the bottom end is sorted that saves me alot of money
I think ill have the rev's at 6500rpm turbo'd, thats more than enough, dont you think, i also didn't like the idea of reving the shit out of it
Ill also make my own turbo exhaust manifold, i have an idea to save some space. Ill post the pic

Ok, after doing a bit of research about the FE,
I decided to keep the bottom end standard, modify the head a bit to rev 7500rpm max. A t28 or t3 turbo bosting 0.8 at the maximum.
Don't have the money atm to go big
What turbo is the best? t28 ot t3, i only want to boost 0.8bar.
