Must be these long 30,000 km service intervals... people probably think "it's OK to go twice the interval, far too expensive to follow the service chart", because it may have been true when cars had 5000 km service intervals.

Here its weird
5000k service=oil change (and usual check over)
then the next 5000ks=oil and filter (and check over)

All that new oil being pumped though that old dirty filter

Not changing filter every time the oil is changed is just plain stupid.

5000k... I suppose you mean miles? That's not quite as bad as over here... the oil change interval is 30,000 kilometers (18,650 miles) for new cars... the filter is replaced every time but the changing interval is far too long IMO.

Oh, I'm sorry! I mistook you for another guy who is from the U.S. .

But it's true... the service chart on my father's 2002 Peugeot 206 has minimal intervals of 30,000k... for some of the mechanical parts it may be ok with 60,000k intervals, but for the oil... well... in my country, we already see a lot of oil-burning, piston-slapping, valve-knocking (not diesel engines!) 206:es. Fortunately, my father does change the oil at every 15,000k at the latest, so this 206 is running very well! :D

I've heard that some car makers have reduced the service intervals to 15,000k lately... now that they've realized that 30,000k oil change intervals are catastrophic for the engines.

Don't believe everything you hear. In my country, people blindly believe the virtues of 'eco-driving'. Which means... slow accelerations, driving on too high a gear, very low revs... no down-shifting uphill to compensate... most people drive like this. Like grannies, FFS!

The reason to this is the state media (eco-propaganda), and some political decisions. All the driving schools in my country are teaching this kind of driving, because the parliament has decided that all driving schools must teach this granny-style driving to everyone.

But there are people over here that don't drive like grannies. And these exceptions often (but not always) tend to be brilliant drivers!

All right, I think we have gone too far off track here... it's Robert's EXA thread, you know. Sorry, Robert!

 It does. 80,000ks without an oil change, thats just stupid  I change my exa's every 5000ks :)

Just a little update.

Crossmember/left engine mount bracket/rear engine mount/zorst manifolds/downpipes all out :D

Finally done with the stripping, just need to put the head back on, give the engine a good clean and then the fun starts

ACTUALLY its not that stupid!

Oil never looses its "oiliness" no matter how old. It just gets contaminated with other shit!

As a matter of interest, with most big horsepower turbocharged European trucks, using some slightly larger oil filters and synthetic oil, they only chain oil every 100,000 K's. AND remain under manufacturers warranty.

Remember, these engines are subject to prolonged high combustion temps and extreme bearing loadings for prolonged time placing huge demands on components and oil.
Most e15et's would NEVER see the same high heat/load conditions in their entire lifetimes as large truck engines do in a single day!

It aint so stupid afterall!!!
