This is an interesting thread!
Road Cars
- When I first got my licence I was given a 1972 Hillman Hunter. Bottle green
- Then got a "GT" Hunter a couple of months later with the alloy head and dual SU oil filled carbies -- Interesting. It went well though. A bit heavy. it was burnt orange.
- In the meantime while at Uni I was rust cutting and spraying my 1979 Pinto powered Celica 5-speed Cortina wagon. Got that going finally, and drove that up until 18months ago. Its rusted out again now and the heads gone. It is red
- Drove a myriad of cars after that. 1985 White Mazda 929 LUXO was my sisters car. Drove my girlfriends 1998 model honda civic for a bit.
- Then managed a succession of Lease cars: HSV GTS, 2X V8 VE Calais, VZ Berlina Wagon, VE Belina on Gas. In that order i think.
- OH and the whole time (since i was 19) I have owned the damn ET pulsar.
- Currently - I have changed jobs - and now don't get a lease car, so I bought myself a grandpa 1992 VQ Statesman V6! ahahaha. I got it put on gas and got 2K back from the government (!) Its my everyday car and has everything. Its a fucking barge though
needs new front struts.
Race Cars:
- Started with an old HIllman Hunter (none of the above) it was blue with a rollcage (sick)
Raced Autocross @ avalon, ballarat and bendigo for like 7-8 years.
- In the meantime Dad bought us another Hillman Hunter (white) with an hotted up XU1 spec torana 202 in it and a supra 5 speed box, Capri struts, cortina girlock brakes, Brass (yes brass) machined front end bushes, LJ torana diff in the back and a 6-point bond roll cage. I cut my teeth in circuit racing in this car, as it was the only one we had that could take the pressure.
I raced that damn thing for probably 10 years as well. We sold it back to the guy we bough it from. I put scratches on the roof pillar at turn 12 Winton one day, without tipping it over. Slid along its side in the grass. Luckily Dad had just painted the underneath black and everyone commented on what a nice job he had done painting the underneath black and the diff orange. My old man was surprised when he seen me back in the pits getting yelled at by the official
...... I still don't know how I did that. Its a 90degree left turn and the scratches were on the left hand pillar? ANd they seen the underneath of the car! Which is the other way!
Anywho
- Then I started on the ET when I was at Uni. And its currently what I run around the circuit in. The chassis is not designed for it, but improvements along the way make it bearable
And its a heap of unpredictable torque-steer fun. Its probably due for a freshen up now. I have been racing it bloody hard for 2 years I think, or therabouts anyway.
Thats me.
Darren.
