Closer, Closer, Ever Closer.
I honestly thought that wiring up the motor would only take me 2 days.
OK, I know I've only worked on it 2 or 3 hours everyday, but its been a week now, and only today have I got the engine wired.
Boy, I am frustrated, I expected to have to work out a lot, but as the motors, years and models are close, I did not expect everything to be so different.
Yes the colour codes are almost the same, but all the wires are in different places.
And the manuals are so screwed.... Why don't they have better diagrams, or at least complete. You cant have a single schematic of a relay thrown in the middle of the book with letters near the pins and expect for someone to know where the relay is and what part of the wiring harness its form. Then to make it worst, have Europe, Hong Kong and 10 other variations on the same picture.
OK all this is a pain, but you can, after days of looking at it, slowly work it out, but then the diagram shows 3 relays and you have 5. WTF, or it shows the harness and labels it "to engine harness", but has no diagrams for engine harness (wire codes or schematics). And of cause I don't have the original engine any more to compare.
But as I said, slowly getting there, now I am working at the fuel/ efi harness, pulling that part out of the et one and running it in the Prairie.
Then I have to put a surge tank fuel system in, and new intercooler piping and I'm done.
Then I can try to kick it over to see what other nightmares can go wrong (I will be very surprised if it starts first Go LOL)
The Plan is to get it going, then move and clean up the engine bay. Neat and Tidy.
I should mention that the old ET when though a few hands and had Lots of """""DODGY""""" work done to it, and I am pretty sure that hoses and wires are in the wrong places.
Engine so far
Dash out
Spaghetti Tree meets Birds Nest collision.
Don't try this if you don't have a strong stomach.
