Just my 2 cents worth.

Everytime I look at this engine bay, i get strange twitching feeling in my knob....................
I make NO secret of my dislike of rice and bling. I like the "rat" (hoodride) theory.
However, for this bay, I make an exception.

Little more done today.
On a budget and not wanting to spend for new Intercooler piping now, I made my own.
Cut... Weld... Grind... Cut... Weld... Grind... another messy job.
They will do the job for a while.

Its still not idling, but runs great with some juice.
I still have to chase down what's wrong, as well as I have not put the O2 sensor on yet
(Have to run the wires, I forgot to before. DOLP!!)

Still lots of wire clean up to do, but starting to look better.

I got Good News, Bad News AND WORST NEWS

Post by Valentich »

This weekend I got the thermo fan in, a single 9" was all I could fit in,
I have a put it in and see what will happen attitude about it, I'm sure it will do an adequate job..

So this means for the first time I can kick it over and warm her up.
That way I can look for why the thing wont Idle properly.
Its been popping and backfiring, running like a dog at idle, stalling if I'm not giving it gas.
It sounded like it was not running on all cylinders at idle,
Then give it some gas and smooth and loud (still only running the bump pipe.)

I've been reading some post, and fiddled with it (over the last few weeks)
I was determined that I will get it right today.

Anyway none of the usual stuff seemed to work.
SO I thought to my self , change the plugs.
When I got my Audi, I did the full service thing (As you don't know how the guy before you has treated it.)

So I replaced the spark plugs. You know with Gold ones (platinum really) $160 quad prong things.
Anyway the old ones looked new so I kept them.
So I put them on the E15t, and would you believe it.......
It Runs and Idles OK know, still a bit fast but that's some adjustment.
But no backfiring.

So I let it warm up, and it was all running fine.

So what's the WORST NEWS,
well running great, but when it got hot, a plume of white smoke came out of the exhaust.

I was too stressed to look at it again
So I went inside from the cold. Made myself a cup of tea.
And decided to call it a success.

tHE pRAIRiE iS rUNNing, iDLING aND iF i maY SAy sO, sOUnDing TOUGH
And the smoke, that's another day

****UPDATE****

Few project happening the last few days.
1:- Working on the rocker cover.
It was looking pretty bad with paint flaking off. So, I am filling it in with fibre glass, and painting it again, probably in RED

2:- Doing the exhaust.
The old peashooter was never going to be used, come-on it's like less than an inch
And the ET donor was basically a straight 2.5 inch pipe with a cannon at the end.
There is a name for that, Cop magnet. You cant hear the doof doof stereo over the exhaust noise.
Plus it's all the wrong shape
The local Carline quoted me $1200 (Dream on) for a replacement.
Charleston Exhaust was a little better but $700 was still too much for me.

ANYWAY, I believe you cant really say you did up a car unless you do as much of the work you can.
So. Using the ET pipe as a start, Cut... Weld... grind... Again.
And Glorious EBAY.
I found a Mercury torpedo resonator and
I found a almost new 2007 Subaru Liberty GT Spec B complete Exhaust system (184 kW) (I did not believe it.....for $32 ).
Its perfect, for the back end of the prairie. I am going to use just where it splits into 2 and back with the 2 mufflers.
Little bit of mucking around but they will fit.

Yep Twin Exhaust

So far I finished the front part of the system and got it in. some muffler paint and it looks almost new.
Also wrapped the dump pipe with some really good heat wrap

The Really cool thing is that it all up cost me under $100 :P

Exhaust looks very nice now! Keep up the good work!

BTW, that JetSpeed rear bumper looks better on your Prairie than it looks on the N12!

Had one of those F---ing F---ing F---ing weeks
I asked the barber to trim my hair (you know to clean it up, shoulder length, and he cut it all off, I shit you not, short and spiky, I look like a fag
and to make it worst, I get home, and the new 4 litre tin of contact adhesive had fallen, on the ground, tables, walls. of cause, it was a ghost, coarse no one did it.

anyway a bit of an update.

I put a few layers of clear over it now.
I don't think its worth buffing.
I'm just going to let it bake in the sun for a few weeks before putting it on.

No rush

Image

And I started on the interior.
The Dash,
As I have heaps of black vinyl, I went with that as a base.
I really could not find a colour combo that I liked, so I went black and red

The top is heavy black vinyl, the inserts and cluster surround will be in red suede, and the bottom will be a mix of the black vinyl and black suede.
The secret, I think to interiors is not too much colour, or it gets to distracting, too confusing, you only need little highlights to do the job.

its only half done, but I thought I put some picture up anyway.

PS, It looks heaps better than the photo shows, the red suede is not very photogenic LOL It is flat and smooth.
