Thanks m8! I'm a bit too impatient I guess, but that's mainly because this is my only car so while I'm getting the car restored, I have no means of transportation beside my bike and public transport. And I love driving around with my car so I miss that, too.

Thanks, I like it too! Those are fake pictures, I've cut from other pictures and put them together with my car. But I think it would look nice with that bodykit! :D

Seat heaters

Post by TurboZ.Dude »

I discovered that the SGL and Turbo seats don't have seat heaters. As I live in almost arctic conditions, the temperatures outside during wintertime can drop to -30 degrees centigrade. A very good reason to have seat heaters. My old GL seats, the blue and the gray/black ones, have seat heaters.

My old original blue GL seats are very worn and I don't use them anymore, so I disassembled them and ripped out the seat heaters. They didn't fit straight to the SGL/Turbo seats, because the amount of seams was wrong on the parts where the seat heater would be installed. The GL seats have 4 seams whereas the SGL/Turbo seats have 5. I had to use the sewing machine. :D

I hope the heaters work as they should. But they should because the heater elements are all intact. And I managed to install them without breaking anything. I need to get the seats to a workshop where they can repair the upholstery, the seats are not quite as good as new. And I want to get the blue striped parts replaced with gray fabric to make the seats fit the interior color scheme. For now, I will use seat covers. I cannot replace large pieces of fabric myself because I'm not that good at tailoring. :P

The rails were quite rusty on the SGL headrests and the GL headrests' rails weren't rusty at all, so I took the headrests from the blue seats and swapped the fabric from the SGL headrests.

Here are some photos of the process, it's a lot of work but fortunately not so difficult. It took me three weekends to do this, but I think it's worth it. :)

I thought I'd show this to you guys because it was a lot of work doing it and I'm happy with the end result. :D

Thanks m8! I reckon there are no N12s in Australia with seat heaters, what would you guys need them for, aircon is more important over there! :D

But I need both! Even though we have cold winters, we also have summers with up to +30 degrees centigrade for a couple of days or even a week and for the rest of the summer the temperature's above +20 degrees and the car gets hot like a cold sauna after standing in the sun for a while! :P

There are a lot of opinions about how hot a sauna should be but my definition is that a sauna should be 80-100 degrees centigrade, whereas the temperature record in my N12 is 68 degrees :D

nice work man. no need for heated seats here. at most where i live it gets down too -5 degrees early in the morning and thats it. summer usually sits around the 36 ish degree mark and we usually get a few 40+'s.

Thanks m8! Minus degrees? Really? I thought you guys never had temperatures below +5? :P

I posted a short 3 minute slideshow video of my project to youtube! Enjoy! It's a summary of the project so far!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JLodVSdLht8

This video has an old recording of my old engine as a background sound track. Note the bad idle! Misfiring all the time. The piston rings were worn out and so was the rest of the engine. A good reason to rebuild or replace the engine. I'm doing both. :P

That's not a BOV, it's an overboost relief valve, set at less than 10PSI, if I remember right. Piss it off for a bung.

And don't keep that massive tubular casting; relocate your AFM for the win.

Ok, I got that wrong somehow. I'm still learning the basic Turbo terminology, this turbo stuff is all new to me. I'll update my photo descriptions and the forum post etc. to fix that little "glitch". Thanks for updating my technical vocabulary. :)
Kimmo wrote:set at less than 10PSI, if I remember right. Piss it off for a bung.
Yeah can't get much boost with that one in place, I know.
Kimmo wrote:And don't keep that massive tubular casting; relocate your AFM for the win.
My goal is a stock E15ET setup with stock boost, for starters. After that I go one mod at a time. Want to avoid as much extra problems as possible. I just want to do things properly and start from the beginning, that's all. But I do appreciate the suggestions! I will most probably do these modifications later. Thanks m8! :D

And if you look closely, I can't use that throttle body because the duct that goes past the butterfly comes out partially outside the intake! With that setup it would vent some boost out that way (and confuse the ECU). A custom spacer to lead the bypass air into the intake is out of the question, because it's far too expensive to have one custom made. Besides, I want a stock E15ET T/B, I hope I can find one. Or at least one that would match the original one as closely as possible.

Haha! Finally got the proper E15ET throttle body! The guy who sold me the intake manifold forgot to give it to me. Probably because he had misplaced it or something. Anyway, here it is now. Can anybody tell me if anything's missing from it apart from the TPS and emissions equipment and the unnecessary "butterfly near-idle closing dampener"? There was no emissions equipment installed in the E series engines in my country, I don't think they even had a catalyzer.

Where should the throttle wire bracket go? I don't have one and I can't see any place on the throttle body where I could fit such a bracket. Somewhere on the intake manifold perhaps?

More "Turbo" (SGL) interior parts folks! Now I have the most comfortable stock seats I can get. :P

Yep,
This one has been cut away, but you can see it goes into the second of those holes:
