Again... why not?

You use water in your radiator dont you? Does that freeze up? No, coz it has anti-freeze in it. It is this exact water that is going through your turbo so the result should be the same. The freezing temp of the water would have dropped anough for it to be safe

OK. I just got worried when dexi said it like that. :P

I don't know jackshit about the turbo stuff so it's easy to mislead me in any direction. I know it's not anybody's intention here to mislead me, but it's hard for me to make up my mind when people have varying advice and opinions about these things. You guys will have to excuse me for my lack of experience. :P

We all started somewhere mate. I remember trying to bolt up my first turbo (T25g), water and oil, along with intercooler and BOV and trying to make a custom manifold with no knowlefge at all... It can get quite confusing!

sorry Jan,
I'm using a Nintendo Wii for my internet at the moment, my computer is getting fixed so i have been cutting my posts short and let Pg and E do all the typing (sorry again).

I just thought taking to a professional will help you understand more if there is any conditions or extra things you can do if there was an issue with watercooling. but Pg is right its the same water going through your engine.

It's OK, I understand.

Sure, that's a thing to look into... I know a couple of guys... one is a local engine specialist... he owns an engine workshop, does rebuilds of engines, turbos, heads, etc... with very good results. :)

Thanks m8! :D

Yeah, I replaced them. I have done some minor modifications to the rear end apart from the lights: (click on the photos to view them in larger size)

Those rear lights are found in Europe on late (1985-1986) N12 Cherries and in Australia on Holden Astras, in case you want to know.

Oh, that's bad luck!

At a local car wrecker.

Sorry, I don't know the part numbers. I may be on my way to check on the restoration progress this weekend. If I do, I could try to look at the lights to see if I can find the part numbers on them. I just hope the part number stickers aren't torn away.

Ya dude because it is very difficult to find a replacement part here in my country because this car is very rare here. So my option is to import from NZ or Australia.

Thanks m8, the excitement is mutual. Where I live, people think I'm a bit crazy for doing this to a "crappy old car that should be at the car wrecker". :P

The E15ET engine won't be finished this year, maybe next year or so... but the car should be finished by the summer if I'm lucky. :D

3-door models are prettier than the 5-door models, aren't they? :D (but less practical for transporting more than 2 people)

I'll PM you about the part numbers, I will most probably going to check on my car on Saturday (tomorrow) or Sunday.

Ok I'l just wait 4 your reply with regards to part number.... Goodluck...

Yeah? What's the advantage to putting it after the turbo?
I just figured it out, it's because the non-atmospheric overboost protection. They put the excess boost back into the system. And since the overboost comes from the pressurized side of the turbo (duh!), it must go between AFM and the nonpressurized side of the turbo (where else can you put it?). Hence the placement of the AFM. If you put back the excess air (from overboost) in front of the AFM instead, the same air would be calculated twice, which causes the ECU to make the mixture too rich.

Stupid arrangement, they could have designed the overboost protection to vent to atmosphere before it goes through the AFM instead. A dump valve on the boost pipe between T/B and Turbo and AFM in front of the T/B would have been a much much better solution. Besides, what's wrong about venting clean air back into the atmosphere?

Yeah, I know you know all this Kimmo, but I had to point out that I finally understand the stupidity of the stock E15ET intake system.

Eh?

The overboost valve does vent to atmo. It's not much of an issue because it never happened to me when I was running stock boost.

And if your overboost did plumb back into the intake, putting it in before the AFM would mean it's measured twice...

Are you sure you're not talking about a blow-off valve? I'm really confused now
