True.

Thanks M8! Yeah, it's a bit dusty and dirty...

This is what it looked like before it got that dirty:

The gauge faces are blue because I haven't replaced the gauges themselves, only the dash. And the old dash was grayish blue. The proper gauge faces are black of course.

I'll try some ultra-bright white LED:s for the gauge cluster backlight, bought a few of those today. LED lighting FTW!

Binnacle belongs to the naval terminology, but it's a good term! :D

Except for the clock and the air vents. I have replaced the clock though, in Europe we only got an analog clock which had a nasty habit of seizing (the same clock as I've seen on some Aus Spec EXA:s).

Some progress:

The driver's seat is a bit worn... I'll patch it up, can't be driving with it like that, looks nasty.

Merry Christmas everyone! :D

Yup, I'm going to clean it up... but I'll wait with that until the car's finished and out of the workshop, because the interior would just keep getting dirty all over again if I cleaned it up at this point.

Well, finally the interior is assembled, minus one strip of plastic on the passenger side and the a-pillar covers and the a-pillar gauge panel:

Only some front-end work left now, and some underbody work. Finally getting back on the road!:mrgreen::mrgreen:

I enjoy your attention to detail.
It's not very often you see a modern car 'restored', hopefully this is the start of something grand.
Congratulations :)

Thanks M8!

The N12 will not stay N/A for long... a couple of years tops. I'll continue developing the car... the main goal at this stage has been to rescue the bodywork but I went a bit further right away.

The interior will not stay as it is either... I have lots of plans but I think that will have to wait until I go E15ET. I prefer performance over looks, but I don't want to be driving around in a car that looks crap. :P

The golden rule is that project cars like this one are never ever 'finished'... there's always something to do! :D

loving the build up, iv followed the progress for a while and now its really taking shape

this is the best part of a build, putting it back toogether, seein your ideas come too fruition and even creating new ones,

the EXA interior is interesting. and so is that dash cluster, they r quite rare,

what sort of wheels are you looking at fitting? the original ones from the start or soomething new? i guess it comes down to what you want the car for really.

but keep up the excellent work, ill be tracking the progress so keep me updated :)

Thanks M8! It does look better now, I agree! :D

Looking back at how it used to be makes me really happy with how well it turned out to look!

Exterior had started to deteriorate badly... the reason to the trunk lid swap is pretty obvious. The doors had rotted away too, they ended up in a junk pile. And the radiator support had practically rusted away. The frame of the car was completely intact and in good condition, apart from the rear end, where the rear bumper was attached to it. This project would have been hopeless if the frame wouldn't have been intact.

Transformers, more than meets the eye! :P

As far as the wheels are concerned, I have been planning to do this:
TurboZ.Dude wrote:I will fix up those wheels on the pix for winter driving... for the summer I have another set of steelies... but I would very much like to get myself a full set of the 14-inch Pulsar ET rims... and paint them black, and brush up the face so it becomes shiny, almost like chrome!

Like this (I photochopped Kavit's chrome ET rims):
Image
The EXA seats are really comfy and good-looking compared to the stock N12 Cherry ones... the difference is enormous! I used to get a sore back with the stock seats although I tried all kinds of positions.
ImageImage

I'll keep you posted.

Cheers!

seats

Post by EXAMADNESS »

I know what you mean, the exa's seats are realy comfy, no sore backs at all, the mazda seats i have in now is also quite comfy, not as much as the exa ones tho.

The interior looks realy good, cant wait till you do the E15ET conversion, would like to see your plans for the interior then, but it also looks damn neat atm. nice work.
