sorry some of the pics are a bit shitty

the head........ see the groove between valve recess'
Image

i rekon this was the culprit, i think the head gasket let go first between the water journel and cylinder, leaned the the fuel mix and bang

Cylinder 4 must run a bit leaner than the rest because that's where the E15s tend to blow the gasket due to detonation from lean mixtures. I know mine did when i was running it untuned.

why do guys spend all their coin on an engine/car and not a couple hundred for some dyno time and professional tuning ??

Yer sorry 15exa but that engine has grenaded really badly.
*Sung to the tune of Here We Go 'Round The Mulberry Bush*

This is the way we detonate the engine, detonate the engine, detonate the engine!!!!

The bang wasnt caused by the gasket popping, the gasket popped due to the tune being lousy.

Lesson learnd eh?.

Know this, no fancy pistons or shit hot rebuild will save you from this destruction.
It will just hurt your wallet a whole lot more next time.
Ill bet the pin bearings will tell a sorry story as well!

i think you guys are miss understanding.........

i have known for some time that this engine was on its last legs, thats why i started the new engine build some time ago.

i would have had this engined tuned properly but didnt see the point forking out $400 plus dollars getin it tuned when i would just have to spend the same amount again gettin the new engine tuned with a completely different setup ie. injectors, cam etc......

so i knew it was gonna go, just didnt know what would go and when

Well, it like this.
That engine shows major signs of neglect thats for sure and yes, that HG has been leaking for quite some time. No question.

But, thats not what killed it to that magnitude see? It works the other way.
Worse case for this engine would have been a pressurised water system or a bore/sump full of water.
That thing would have been death rattling for quite a bit to result in that much damage.

However, it serves as a blunt reminder to the newer players about the perils of tweaking up a force fed engine without supporting tuneup.

This is exactly what happens when the question actually gets asked of the engine in competition with a bad tune setup.

Thats the point we are making thats all.

ditto.......

but yeah, i have enlisted the help of really quality engine builders and tuners for the new setup............ so this sort of thing "shouldnt" happen again, well not for some time anyway.

was just watching the video last night of the run when it died at 3/4 track too, went 14.6 @ 87mph  ........... rekon if it held together it would have been a 13 easy

Darn! Oh well, shit happens unexpectedly while waiting for it to happen. :P
Too bad the engine blew now though, before the other engine's finished.
