Transaxle Gear oil filling alternate point- Speedo cbl hole?

Post by enthrall »

Hi,
I'm going to change out the oil in the gearbox/transaxle, and the oil fill hole is in a pretty awkward spot- on the side for some random reason.

Question, would it be safe and possible to fill it up via the spot where the speedo cable and nylon gear assembly pulls out at the top?

Seems a lot less hassle- just put 2.7 litres in.. Or is there a hidden danger in doing this I don't realise?

i Can't think of a reason that you couldn't fill it through the speedo drive, but its not hard to fill the box through the oil filler though. Squeeze bottle, and a 1/2mtr length of pvc hose, where is the issue?

Thanks for the opinion on the speedo hole.
Good point- need to turn the shed upside down to find a suitable hose etc, thats all. :)

Do it from the top with a funnel and hose if you like.

funnel and hose works a treat, but can be done through speedo if you need to
