Power Steering Query

Post by samwdg »

Hey guys,

Just to cure my curiousity, did any of the n12's come out with power steering?

If they didnt, im gunna see if i can rig up my van with n13 power steering when i drop the CA in.

Cheers,

Ah really, well was thinking bout setting up power steering, mainly for when i put the CA in to counter the torque steer and the 205's on the front.

there were N/A N12 pulsars (narrow headlight versions) that had the power steering and the E16. i beleive these models were sold sisde by side with N13 so they are probably 87 onwards. also the N12 shaped astra had the option of power steering. Models outside australia are worth a look as teh cherry n12, 2 door pulsar N/A and a few of the N/A coupes (exa) came with the updated racks.

Your E15ET engine has the top engine mount (drivers side) already prepped for the pump and your crank pulley has the correct size spare so it would be simply a matter of changing the rack and other components onto your car.

If you find a power steering model you could also just change the rack over. this model comes with the 3.05 turns lock to lock instead of the bus driver style 3.6 lock to lock that we have. might make it a little heavier, but should be great in the turns.

also look into new bushes and a proper wheel alighment. I've had mine done and my steering is light as. I run 205.40R17's on a 7" rim also.

I don't know if this might help, but I got a full power steering setup from a b11 coupe they are known as Nissan Sunny here in the UK they came with an E15 N/A engine. I am in two minds of installing it, while the engine is out.

Hope this helps

P.S this sunny coupe that I am talking about looks like the exa but it isn't.

some e15s aussie pulsars have it as well as the verts.

you wont need woryy much about toruque steer with a CA
they have well setup driveshafts so they act as if they are even.

it will also help having the pulsar vlsd box.

it is a lot nicer having power steering tho :P

all you will need is the rack, get the CA powersteering pump and bottle as they are better, then get a workshop to make up lines to suit :)

Yeh was just wondering cause i had a heap of mates saying i would have torque steer probs, but they all drive RWD cars so they probably couldnt handle the FWD 8)

When you say i need a PS rack, that n12 or n13?

Yeah i think it might have been a b12, cause the b12 coupe looks abit like an exa and the b11 coupe just looks like my van but in a hatch back, not a wagon.
