ok guys I got a new coil pack which will do for now till I get something more serious lol.. Police love me!!!

will post piks in the morning but it's got more connections than my stock one! I don't know what wires to splice and where they they all connect.
so anyone from brisbane wanna help out and I will repay in beer?????????
quick job just gotta connect it, I've got spare wires and all.

maybe they work perfectly but I want a stronger spark!!!!
thats why I'm upgrading from the 1986 one

1: who says your are actually "upgrading" and,
2: who says the spark will actually be "stronger"??

You might actually be downgrading to a weakwer spark for all you know eh?

The old adage, "if it aint broke, dont fix it" is particularly relevant to ignition systems. Especially fixed dwell time electronic systems.

wish i hadda known this, as i was told i needed a new fan dangled one for 'stronger spark' too!
i wouldnt bother mate, it made no diff to mine...

new coil pack, leads, plugs and no difference..
their mainly supporting mods of whats too come but yea ahh less fuel consumption already when peddling it and I already feel a down low power increase.. nothing to brag about but feel it still

If you happy unloading your hard earned into it then go right ahead then.

In my experience, ignition systems either work, or they dont because of a fault.
They dont magically deliver new found power regardless of what the advertising blurbs of those expensive aftermarket ignition system makers expect us to swallow.
About the best you can expect to see is better cold and wet weather starting and a poofteenth of better fuel mileage and that would be mostly because the stockl system was faulty.

I changed over to a bosch replacement coil i cant remember the number ill have to look at it.

I was having issues with it breaking down under high boost. Changed the coil to be safe as i dont think a 20year old coilpack was doing any justice.
Well, now it was fine under boost, and the car actually started when it was cold!

MEC 717 is the generic replacement electronic coil. Just about any coil beginning with the MEC prefix will work. I have a feeling the usual number is an MEC 723

HEC coils are designed primarily for cars running CDI ignitions, however they seem to work just fine.
