i just finished fitting a locked diff to my box, i took it for a drive and i fucking hate it, feel like im gonna brake my wrists trying to hold on to it coming out of a corner.

i knew there would be a loss in handling with daily driving but didnt think it would be that dramatic........

has anyone else out there done this, and have you persisted with it to be able to drive it on a daily basis?????

really? she ran a locked diff? thought it would have ben LSD.............. damn.

well after driving to work this morning, its not really that bad, just sux when i had to slow down for roundabouts and tight corners in traffic. i think i will persist with it.

it will probably dramaticly increase the speed of tyre wear too wont it?

Yep, she ran a locker.

I would imagine tyre wear would be a fair bit worse due to skipping of the outside wheels.

Yeah mine is LOCKED,its hard to drive and when on boost, trying to hold it straight feels like your going straight for a pole....tyres get munched, and all suspension and mounts start to wear quick too....better off with a LSD but only a locker seems to hold

nah rwd with locker is ok. my mate had his r31 n his sigma with locked diffs and they were fun to drive even as a daily. the only annoyin part was when doin 3 point turns-more like 6 point turns in sum cases plus the shock to the driveline ouch.
but fwd with locker sounds like a bad idea.
gud luck with it though...

Wasn't a locker an option on GTHOs or something?

Prolly not a real flash idea for the street even on a RWD... I imagine it'd make a car pretty damn tail-happy in the wet.

GTHO's had a 9" with a Detroit locker. Different animal.

Spooled diffs promote not only savage oversteer in the wet but gross understeer as well.

They are just a total arse of a thing at any time other than on a race track.

Can you explain what the differences are please?

I don't understand the difference between detroit lockers and these spooled things.

Darren.

A spooled diff is just like a solid axle...like a go-kart. All the diff gears are removed and the axles are just plugged into bolt on "spools" on the crownwheel.

A Detroit is a mechanical locking device that "locks" each axle under power (hence the name Detroit Locker) but will allow the wheels to turn at different rates during a tighter turn.
There is no "rate" or % of locking as in an LSD Once engaged, the Detroit just "locks" the 2 axles together as one.
