Use your axle stands!

Post by Stuart »

Hey guys,

I am here lucky to have fingers to type with....

On Satuday night I bled the brakes on my ET.

After I had finished I was putting one of the rear wheels when the car fell off the trolley jack.

Before I had time to react, the fingers of my right hand were trapped between the lip of the guard and the unattached wheel.

Luckily my Dad was home and quickly jacked the car up, I was only trapped for 2 minutes or so.

Fortunately all I suffered was some crushed tendons, No cuts or fractures.

I have to put up with 'pins & needles' and numbness for this week until the swelling goes down.

Anyway I thought I would share this with all of you as a reminder to be safe when working on your car - Always use axle stands.

You might not be as lucky as me.

at least it was just your fingers, i've seen dudes get under cars held only by a trolley jack, hell even std jacks only holding one side up! PURE MADNESS!!

remember level ground, axle stands AND chock the wheels, never trust a jack. dont lean on a car when its up in the air. lots of people die every year being crushed by cars/trucks.
I understand the need for conformity. Without a concise set of rules to follow we would probably all have to resort to common sense.

Gotta get some...

Last time I had to get under the car, I really had to wrestle with it to get the alternator out (unbolting strut upright and yanking it forwards, etc)... and I'm looking at the poxy little jack, thinking that's not cool...

So a couple of wheels and lumps of wood under the sills saw to my peace of mind.

If you have to get by in a pinch, you can still cover your arse, guys. Take the time to figure something out.

Yeah, like Kimmo said - It's a rule of mine no matter what I have holding the car up to put one or more wheels under it laying down (or if I've no wheels off I use the spare.)
Might bust a nice wheel, but it's better than yer head.
