the idea is to keep the heat inside the manifold so it goes through the turbo. as it's the heat energy that spins the turbo round. the more heat the better! plus it's good to keep the excess heat out of the engine bay

i'm not sure how much it would cost to do a standard exhaust manifold. but i doubt it'd be over $500. :?

Hello,

You are smack on! Custom exhaust manifold cost me $410 cash from HPC. Other places do it too like Jet-Hot coatings and the like. Just google them.

There are 2 types:
- Inside and outside pipes ceramic coating, which is the expensive one above.
- Just the outside coating, which worked out to be ~$100 per meter. THis stuff has a lower temperature threshold though. Still nothing you will see out of our engines anyway.

So I got my exhaust manifold in the ceramic and my dump pipe done in the other stuff for $550.

Want more details/temperatures:

HPC High Performance Coatings PTY LTD
6 Watson Rd Leongatha VIC 3953
ph: (03) 5662 4338 Coatings--Protective

These are the guys that did mine.

They are into some heavy duty work. That ceramic coating is used on V8 supercars and Indy cars. Its the real deal.

Hope this helps

Darren.

All i did with the exhaust manifold was give it a good scrub with a wire brush then a good clean with solvent. Then gave at a quick coat of High Temp 1500Deg spary-pack from Supercheap Auto. This paint is for use on exhausts an manifolds. Makes the bay look heaps cleaner.

Today i got around to doing a bit more work. I made up a bracket to mount the wastegate actuator. This will also be the flange for the intake to the turbo when i weld the pipe onto it.

This is the intercooler i bought for the car. Its fairly small measuring 280x300x75 but it will do for now. Flow wont be a problem, its a bar and plate core with 3" inlet & outlet. Not bad for $150 of ebay.
