zomg so tired!
saturday evening i decided i would dedicate some time to the car to try and finish a bunch of things. kept working because i didnt have a clock.... the go channel was on tv i worked right through the evening programming, thru the vampire movie and eventually went to bed when i got sick of the 6 or so songs playing over and over again. not sure what time it was by then but i reckon at least 3am. I'm normally a grandpa going to bed at 9 so thats pretty crazy for me....
then the next day i got up and started working again for most of the day!
the end result is that most of the wiring is done. electric windows and central locking is rewired, alarm is rewired, all the relays are under the dash, 2nd fuse box is in, fusible links are in, ecu is in place (under the dash), drilled another 30mm hole (in the firewall this time) for the engine loom, lengthened the mirror wires for fender mirrors too!
The engine bay is finished for now too. really not a fan of the dodgy engine enamel paint job but when i get a mig I'll shave the lot and respray it in velocity blue like the rest of the car and hey.... it's better than red!!!!!
now i just need to shorten the ecu wires, tape up the interior looms, run 1 wire to the fuel pump and switch over the tanks.
Then i need to fit the inlet manifold and plug everything in, fit my exhaust manifold which is in the mail, finish fitting up my 2nd rear swaybar, fit the new full sized radiator & hoses etc do all the small bits and pieces like modifying the power steering tensioner pulley, then put the rest back together.
beloeve it or not, it's almost there!
Then i've got to get the exhaust connected to the new manifold and drive down south to get tyres fitted to the xr4s (which i need to autosol up) and get the tailpipes made up..
BUSY BUSY BUSY!!!
PICS:
now for the test fit of the wheels! (the one on the front is the 6" spare wheel)
yay!

I'll leave the strut brace as-is for now, but in the future when I weld up the holes and seams I may weld a bracket to each tower so i can fix a straight bar in place, that way it won't be able to flexCallumgw wrote:looking good, don't forget to improve the strut brace:

Yeah will hopefully be worth it in the end LOLphotoglossy wrote:Niiiice! U been busy dude!
What's really good is that most of the wires I'm modifying are actually being shortened by a great deal, not lengthened.
The only ones I've lengthened have been a few of the headlight wire motors but that's just because the relays used to be about a foot away.
Not only is it good for lower resistance in the electrical system, it also takes out a lot of useless weight!
I've gone through most of the joins in the system and soldered the lot, nissan likes to crimp everything - it's cheap, easy and quick. However, especially after a decent amount of time, the joints can become quite restrictive. A proper solder joint will not fail and they will easily outlast the life of the car.
Soldering is great - i really like it..

Did more work last night & did a basic systems check.
Headlights work
Wipers work
Alarm works
Starter motor works

looking good so far!!
Cleo was a great help, kept an eye on what I was doing, next time i'll get her to do it
not sure if you can see it or not, but this is a hell of an improvement!
