Any current Megasquirters ?

Post by DillonP »

Hi all again,
I haven't touched my ET for about 5 years, busy with other things, spent most of it's life in a garage poor thing ...
I have a done a search and read a few of the old entries, nothing is current as in 2008. Anyone still running or has successfully run a Megasquirt ECU ?

Great product, great price.

How much would it cost to put one of these together?

Hey Dillon, Welcome back mate!

I had a look at the megasquirt recently, but when you put the prices together and include build and time for firmware and software selections, didn't see it coming out that much cheaper based on the extra time involved. In the end I got a second hand Haltech instead....

Hey Callum, the pricing is half that of a comparable product, the Mircotech.
ECU and loom for ~$500 ... buy it already built from these guys,

I don't have time to do circuit boards and the subsequent fault finding.

So thats: $415 (ems) + $88 (relay) + $75 (relay cable) + $65 (harness) + $100 (map sensor) + $? (ignitor) + $? (TPS) + $40 (delivery) = $783 (USD) AU$830.

So when I did these sums before I didn't get the feeling that it was quite as good as my first impression. Then I came across the Haltech (with all the stuff) for $500

Don't need the relay board or relay cable in our application, its existing.
The rest of the sensors I would be replacing regardless, so their cost is not considered.
Compare it to what you get for ~$1100 from Microtech, ecu and loom.

Anyone running one ?

MAP sensor is on-board like Microtech.
E15ET ignitor might be able to be reused or use the on-board single-coil driver.

Again can change to a new driver if you want to run multi-coil.

Read the blurb is you're really interested.

I've got an unused version 2 here with loom you can have for $350 if you want it. All assembled and ready to go.

I didn't know enough about ignition at the time and was struggling trying to decide how to hook it up. I could probably do it fairly easily now but I bought another brand of ECU.
It's version 2.2.

I was hoping to get one of these down the track when the EXA is no longer the daily and I can afford to have it off the road for a while.

Now is the time to buy one with the aussie dolar going so well.

Done a bit of research in the past and contacted a few people who run them on FJ20's. There is a good write up on the ignition here http://www.diyautotune.com/tech_article ... _turbo.htm and also in the hybridZ link mentioned in this article.

Maybe we should do a group buy?
