really odd surge and rich

Post by EA-73-XA »

hey fellers,

well im almost ready to get it registered...
but Im having a few running dramas that seem a little odd,

firstly, when I start the car, It seems like its missing... when I remove the plug to the injector.... no change... so I changed injectors.... no change...

secondly, when Iv been testing it on road, its seems to be ok, until you put the foot in and the boost rises, coughs and misses but still pulls all the way to maximum boost... sometimes it doesnt happen..
today I planted the foot and it maintained boost but.... was choppy

pulled it into the driveway, and it struggled... bogged down and puffs of black choof until it cleared, (it also does this on light throttle after a bootfull)

now, Iv checked my codes, and the only thing Iv got is 23 (idle switch)
Iv tried the wire jiggle to the ecu, and its so intermittent, I cant actually tell if it is or isnt the classic wire syndrome...

FPR?
Transistor?
air leak?

I dunno

and just to give you a picture, my AFM sits in my piping, just next to my distributor, any leak would have to be AFTER this in order to muck up the mixtures ...

so far I cant find any leaks....

OK, ECU wires wont cause richness. The symptoms are badly hesitating and jerking at anything apart from revs above about 3500rpm anf wide open throttle.

Any airleaks post AFM will cause faster idling, leaness and hesitations.

Id be checking the wiring to the coolant temp sensor. The ECU sensor with the square, injector style plug, NOT the dash guage sender which is a single wire job.
If the CHT is disconnected, faulty connections or buggered and not working at all, the ECU will default to a fairly rich setting.

CHT's are a fairly generic "Delco" type of sender and should show resistance with a multimeter.
IIRC, room temp should show around 220-240 Ohms something like that.
Look it up.

Another thing that will cause richnes is a sticking flap in the AFM. If yours has been messed with, mounted in some funky angle or is damaged of full of oil and gunk it may not be returning fully to closed on throttle off which may explain your richness after driving here and there.

Iv replaced the sensor, and still it was choppy...
I found the CAS error code came up

as well as Detonation sensor too...

swapped CAS, and the codes cleared....
I also sprayed some degreaser up through the piping incase the AFM flap was stuck or sticky.... few flames, but overall, its running....better
but still shit

also, iv got voltage at the injector but it just still sounds like a Boxer, blue spark.... i dunno...

maybe bad earths?
