Anyone? Just curious as ive been told that
My factory manifold is cast iron and that it's harder to
Weld to.

Yes, if you can find the right welder (and there are very few of them who can do this properly) you can weld to cast but how long it will last is the question.

External gates are almost not necessary in the real world and are largely for wank on the vast majority of road cars. If you are using a stock manifold then its safe to say you wont ever have the need for an external gate UNLESS the turbo ur using is not externally gated to begin with!

What plans do you have?

I've seen an ET with external gate & screamer and it sounded pretty crappy, I'm running a stock sr manifold on my 180sx with an external gate on it & it works fine..Actuators over time tend to not hold boost as good as when they very first were made so I have noticed quite a BIG difference between internal gated and external..I'm running a hks gt-ss turbo on my 180 and it is internal gated & it would just slightly not hold the same amount of boost (16psi) but with this external gate it holds 16psi 1.1 bar spot on everytime..feels much better to drive..gates sound mad on the right engines, rb's & 1/2J's but I wouldn't go putting one on an E15ET

Finding someone to weld it shouldn't be that hard..Most engeneerers can do it..I got a guy I knew to do mine..Just a matter of heating the manifold up & welding whilst it's hawt...ohhhhh yeah

Well, sorry m8. NOT quite so Im afraid.

I can easily weld cast iron by pre-heating the area and using cast rods. Easy! cast rods are cheap and easy to use.
How long it lasts....that is very very debateable.

I found a specialist in Sydney some years ago to weld a cast manifold for me who is a specialist in cutting and shutting cast truck heads together and i can assure you the process is far more involved than just heating up and welding away.

That may be so but it deff works, Know of a gate on a 32 & it's been on there for many years with out a drama..You deff don't need a specialist to do it for you, Just someone who has done it before and been successful is enough..speaking from how I went about it of course pops

If all his after is a external gate & screamer, It's going to be cheaper to get one put on a cast manifold than what it is to make up a full custom manifold with a external gate flange on it!..Most engeneerers can weld them on for you for around $150

the set up i have now with the internal wastegate is shit.
i got a t25g turbo off a sr20 rwd engine,and after turning the rear
housing for it to fit on my fwd manifold. theres no holes in the cold side of the turbo for the internal gate to mount to. so i made up a
braket out of sheet metal for now. it only spools up to like 5psi :(
so i got a new 38mm external gate, instead of f#@king around
trying to fit another internal gate on.
plus the external gate will hold boost better and looks good to

You want to go to the trouble and expense of fucking around with external gates, cast welding and whatnot all because there are no convenient holes on the compressor cover??.... Youve got to be kidding right??? Serious???

If your setup is shit, then firstly, you should have done it right the first time...anyway, bygones, why dont you just copy the stock T2 setup which works perfectly.

Drill 2 holes in the back face of the T25g and tap them. Just the same as the T2 is.
Mount the stock T2 actuator in place.
Extend the actuator shaft.. I cant remember..... whatever mm and your done.
Took me less than an hour and cost me NOTHING.
Geez M8 use some imagination here.

I'm with Tass on this one.

I just got a T25g last week and had to rotate both front and rear so all the lines lined up etc..

Then had to tap one new hole in the back of the compressor housing to hold the actuator as used a hole already there.

Not hard and done for next to stuff all.

oh my bad, that wasnt the only reason i wanted to go external gate.
i think it looks good in the engine bay and they perform well.
the wastegate i have is anoized blue , it matches everything in my engine bay. plus u dont see many ET's running external gates, and the flutter
