fading headunit screen

hey guys, i recently bought a 94 statesman n the headunit for the stereo had this annoying screen fade, i go to touch it n the screen fades n then it will be ok n then i wont touch it n then the screen fades but the surrounding buttons dont fade just the screen. So annoying coz it randomly happens n its getting very annoying. Any help would be awesome. Thanks.

Is it a removable face?
My screen usually cuts out the screen as the connection on the face n unit is old and is becoming a worse connection, causing it to do this.
