Sorry Guys but this just does not impress me that much.
Anyone can drive around a corner as good as that if hey have the right car and practice doing it 40 times.
Have a look at his results in the WRC.
He not doing that well as its not done 20 times before they switch on the camera.
Just like the Police show at Movie world.
I like anything car racing but not practices a couple hundred times.
Just my 2 cents worth

Yeah, I see what you're saying. But I could practice that 200 or 2000 times, in that car, and I still doubt I'd be able to do that. (as much as I'd like to think I could)samual wrote:Sorry Guys but this just does not impress me that much.

And it is very cool to look at.

On a more serious note, why is it that so many people miss the point of those entertaining vids and blur the line between fact and fantasy?
Firstly, in more recent times, NOBODY gets to drive at the elite level of rally motorsport (WRC) or ANY world championship level motorsport event, in a factory team, without being seriously talented to begin with, and having it in bucketloads.
Even the nafarious "Buy a drive" 'ers! better known in F1 circles. They might buy their way into a seat, but they still need wads of talent in the first place even to just qualify to sit in the seat let alone drive!
So is, Chris Atkinson is a talentless steering wheel attendant who got to drive for Subaru, NOT because of his grit and determination to succeeed along with truckloads of raw talent (and LACK of any real sponsorship), BUT because he sucked off some Jap company director....?
Or what about that "talentless" Finnish uy,....whatizname........ oh yes Kimi Raikonnen. One of the most brilliant F1 drivers of all time. He would be most famous for trashing the most number of cars yer? He cant seem catch Block when both their cars stay on the road....wait, hes in his second year of WRC as well and i suggest hed have to arrange appointments for his potential sponsors........... Hmmmm!!!
Secondly, who else in WRC, came into the sport and was regularly winning in their very first 2 seasons anyway?? Even the dirt Demigod Loeb who is by far and away the fastest rally driver arguably of all time, took time before he dominated.
I fail to see why Block is universally bashed so often about his supposed lack of talent/progress in the WRC just because he has put together a couple of promotional Vids featuring unreasonably fast, purpose prepared cars on closed and set up courses, all the while peddling a particular brand of shoe which is the ENTIRE point of the vids.
If he were not known for the "Gymkharna" series of DC Shoes promo vids then he would most likely be some kind of folk hero Id predict! A little like Atkinson actually.
Cmon, your not asked to believe that these KB vids are anything else but advertisements with the entire sequence of tests setup and rehearsed and who cares how many times it took to complete a task in the vid, or even if several unsuccessful attempts of the same tests were simply edited together to achieve the shot.
They are pure and simple 2 dimensional entertainment, nothing more and nothing less. You just sit there and be entertained. You dont need to think nor need to scrutinise the drivers talent/lack of talnet or how many times it took to succefssfully complete each test.
In a way, its like watching cartoons . Just pure entertainment.
Is why it was posted!!
