Mike's 1985 two-tone ET (formerly Kid Nismo's) updated 30/1

Post by robbo »

Hi Guys,

After hunting after an ET in good condition, I saw Kid Nismo's ad a few days ago, and went out to inspect the car. Fell in love with it straight away, and after spending a couple of hours talking to Sok about the history of the car and all things N12, we sorted out payment and the car's now mine!

First thoughts of the car is that it is 99.9999% rust free and there are only a few small dents in the front passenger door, and two bumps around the rear bumper. Rust free and pretty much an arrow-straight body, definitely optimistic about it! There is no doubt that I will be respraying it in its current colours at some point next year, when I have a garage available to spray in.

Engine:
Piston wall rebore 0.50 thou
ACL Duralite piston 0.50 thou
Solid engine mounts
Camtech reground stage 2, 247" lift, 265" duration
CA18DET 340cc injectors
ACL bearings replaced on polished crank shaft
small front mount intercooler
VL throttle body
GT28 copy running 13 pound boost
3" dump to 2.5 exhaust
Exedy HD clutch
Cold idle control
AEM wideband air fuel ratio meter
boost gauge
Microtech LT8 and controller
MSD 3 coil blaster
Eagle 9mm ignition leads
Plumb back HKS BOV
Battery relocated to the boot

Suspension and Brakes:
unknown springs and pedders comforts at the front
pedders springs and kyb? Struts at the rear
Vented exa disks on the front.

Work with parts ready to go:
Prairie front calipers
factory side skirts
twin subs
head unit
amp
replace timing belt and cam gear gasket
rebuild spare gearbox with n13 internals
fix handbrake
rebuild rear calipers
replace muffler

Ok, already have a few updates:
-purchased rda brake pads, alternator, air con and timing belts
-original ET sticker bought from nissan in 1995 is on its way to me, to be used after the respray
Here are some photos from yesterday after a basic clean just to assess the condition of the paint:

Thinking of applying for my local repco for a weekend casual job, just to earn a bit more $$ to spend on the car, plus the staff discount would stretch it further ;)

Not sure at this point, although if some come up at a reasonable price close to me (sydney) I doubt I'll pass them up!

On a side note, the exhaust came off its hangers last night, putting out some decent sparks according to my friend behind me. Stopped immediately and reattached it, thankfully there was barely any damage :D

Have made a little more progress, with the alternator and air con belts replaced. The new brake pads have arrived, so I'll be putting them in probably next weekend.
Also purchased an MSD 3 coil blaster off ebay and am waiting for it to arrive, not sure if I want to put it on the ET or the Exa, any thoughts would be appreciated? Turns out that the $195 radiators on ebay are in fact 2 row, so will most likely pick one up in the next two weeks (aka next pay day!)
On a side note the exa is now under a car cover to protect it somewhat from the elements as I don't have a garage. Also high on the priority list is to get one for the ET.
Too many things to buy, not enough cash haha!

update: had a hissy fit due to the radiator leak, so the new radiator has been purchased and with a bit of luck could go in the car over the weekend

the radiator arrived yesterday, but when taken out of the box, it is going to require modification in order to fit! not very happy considering that it was marketed as a stock replacement one :/

Since I couldn't replace the radiator and had the whole day to muck around with the cars, changed the oil on the exa, and painted the rocker cover on the et. Whilst not perfect, still happy with the way it came out, and will likely repaint the intercooler pipes to make them look prettier.

Being a 2 core wont be much of a drama.
What changes are needed to make it fit?

the brackets at the top will require a bit of mucking around with, and most likely longer bolts in order to fit. still waiting on a plug to be sent out for it as well

Hmmm.. it needs to be said that if indeed this radiator will fit up with such monor changes then its the holy grail in terms of radiators for ET's/Exa's.

Id be tempted to buy the entire stock from this supplier and make them available to members!

are you having issues with the inlet pipe (the upper) not being a 90° elbow?
but altogether, it resembles closely the original oem radiator, nice find! :)

We'll soon see if I can find some piping to line up with the inlet, it's seriously a hassle and a half considering i didn't expect to have to modify s***!

list of parts to go on the car is growing, entirely due to replacing the girlfriend with said retail therapy.

lots has happened this week, but not in the way of progress as such. Pretty sure the turbo has blown, and will need to be replaced, after much advice gained from the numerous facebook posts.

On the bright side, just bought a shit load of spare parts, including:
-4 doors
-hatch
-interior
-dash
-shifter
-headlights
-taillights
-guards
-etc etc etc

and....

side skirts and rear spoiler!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
