Hey people, I thought I might finally show my ride after sneaking around the forums for a couple of years. After seeing a couple of N/A - pulsars/cherries here, I decided to post my car up here even though this is a N12 Turbo forum. My N12 is currently under complete body restoration and it will later be converted to the E15ET world (with an E15ET engine :P).

Name: Jan Peter Buss (aka "JP" or "TurboZ.Dude", I'm also known as "NissanN12Dude" at YouTube)

Location: Vaasa, Finland

Year/ Model: 1984 N12 'Pulsar' aka. Cherry (currently with E15S engine)

Color: Originally sky blue metallic, now completely resprayed in mitsubishi Y01 yellow (one of the Mitsu Evo 8's base colors), the area between the tail lights is painted metallic black.

Period of ownership: since 2002

Performance: not tested officially. Using a stopwatch i got a 0-100 kph time of 12.2 seconds plus or minus 0.5 seconds. I don't want to start guessing what my drag strip times with that performance would be - probably very crappy if the gearbox doesn't blow first :P. With the E15ET engine (that I'm currently gathering parts for) it probably will be a lot quicker. :D

Engine Mods:
* Cold air induction
* Lumenition "optronic" electronic ignition with optical trigger
* 3.5-inch stainless cannon muffler
* Front muffler replaced with a Swedish "Simons" 2-inch straight-thru muffler
* Oil catch can (the old engine had a lot of blowby due to very worn piston rings and cylinders, so it was pushing a lot of oil to the intake manifold, I decided to buy one of these to prevent all that liquid oil and sludge from entering the intake manifold and clogging up just about everything)
* Engine swap (just recently) during the car restoration.

Interior Mods:
* an almost complete 1985 black/gray interior swap (instead of the original grayish blue one)
* Turbo/SGL seats (I've installed seat heater elements from my old N/A seats)
* Bluebird 1990 4-spoke steering wheel
* A-pillar meter rack with three 52-mm gauges: Voltmeter, oil pressure gauge, water temperature gauge.

Exterior Mods:
* 1985 Cherry tail lights (the Holden Astra lights)
* Painted front grill, the chrome strip removed
* Hella FF 450 high beams
* Opel Kadett wiper arms front & rear (to get rid of the wobbling wiper blade syndrome and the problem to find wiper blade adapters)

Wheels: stock steel 13's with 175/70 tyres

Other:
* The body has been completely stripped down and rust repaired
* The odometer reading is 388141.
* More about my car at my website: http://turbozdude.net46.net
* I have a couple of videos of my car at my YouTube channel: http://www.youtube.com/NissanN12Dude
* More about the catch can; it is not that useless together with low performance engines, as you probably know already (no flaming of my thread, please!): http://www.gassavers.org/showthread.php?t=290

Future Plans:
* E15ET conversion using my old engine as base
* Power steering
* Digital dashboard
* Making it an approximate replica of the Australian Nissan Pulsar ET :D
* The stock Australian ET front bar (or perhaps a full JetSpeed body kit)
* E15E EGI manifold together with the E15ET engine (perhaps, I hate the twin butterfly setup though)
* Aircon
* Rear sway bar
* Vented front rotors
* Rear disc brake conversion
* Brake master cylinder, proportioning valve and other brake parts from the Pulsar ET (maybe)
* 14-inch Pulsar ET original rims

Pics:

The car looked like this when I first got it:

My first mods; the electronic ignition and my crappy DIY cold air induction system (and the highbeams), and finally the oil catch can:

ET-look-a-like conversion plans (with a European N12 Cherry spoiler):

And now for the most important part; the E15ET project:
I'm building myself an E15ET engine from bits and pieces I find here and there, it looks like this at the moment. Parts are dummy fitted.

I still need a lot of parts, but I'm making some progress. :)

Nice work!

I like the yellow, but unfortunately in Melbourne Taxi's are all yellow. So yellow cars aren't popular.

Thanks m8!

Yellow is not quite as usual here in Finland, my car will actually stand out with this color. And also, it is more clearly visible in this color on the country roads, and that contributes to "traffic safety". Anyway, I'm a big fan of the Mitsu evos 7, 8, and 9, that was the biggest contributing factor to my choice of color.

Car looks great man i remeber my na engine did the same cold air induction as you almost identicle lol one tip if you want a bit my power is a set of extractors with a 2 and a half inch exust with a hot dog and sports muffler made me smile alot and sounded great cant wait till its done

Thanks man, great advice! I might as well install a set of extractors, but currently I'm already overbudget on this one, I'll have to wait until I get some money to do that... and I think I'll rebuild the entire exhaust using 2 1/2" stainless pipe when I'm at it, the N/A exhaust is about 1 3/4" if I have measured correctly. I have a lot of exhaust adapters to make the mufflers fit, that probably hurts performance and also the sound :P

I haven't been looking for that much performance with these mods, I just wanted the car to sound nice and tune the power up to slightly higher rpm to better match the gearbox gearing. This setup did just that, the acceleration is somewhat better like this. It's most probably the optical ignition that makes the engine rev harder, but the torque definitely "came from the filter" :P. I'm not rpm crazy, I never rev past the 6000 rpm redline, doing that would kill this stocky engine.

As the car is completely stripped down, it'll take a while to get this baby back on the road. I just can't wait to get rid of the carb, though. I've had a lot of vacuum problems and even managed to clog it up once. And tuning the mixture is very problematic with the OEM hitachi carb. The problem is, converting to E15ET will take a while, so I just have to have patience.

I thought I could write something about myself as well while I'm at it.

Well, here goes nothing. I'm a 25-year-old IT Masters Degree student from the city of Vaasa that is located in Finland. I've always been interested in cars, since I was 1 1/2 - 2 years old (!) when I sat in the baby wagon (the "seat" model) and asked my father to tell me what make and model the parked cars on the street were. I'm not kidding, I'm quite serious about this. I was an enthusiast already at the age of two. :)

I also am a technology freak, and a modding freak. For example, I love spectacular lighting and wiring inside a computer. Ben Hewitson's computer looks very very nice, great work Ben! I haven't modded my computer that much yet but I've got a set of two UV neon tubes and a plexi window case with digital temperature display on the front panel.

I got my N12 from my father when he finally had to buy a new car. I actually have grown up with my car, my father had the car since 1987, I was 4 years old when he bought it. So I'm emotionally very attached to my N12 Cherry, the car means everything to me, almost like a girlfriend. :P But I don't have a girlfriend, so the car will have to do for now. :P

When I discovered n12turbo.com for some years ago, I got a lot of inspiration to mod my ride, and i started dreaming about an E15ET engine. When the n12turbo.com forums were started up, I started checking out the forums every day (!). After some time I registered as a forum member. By the way, I love reading E's comments. They are always spot on and sometimes (quite often, actually) very funny. Bwahahahahaha! :P

This must be the only N12-related forum in the world, and from what I can tell, us N12 enthusiasts have a lot in common even though we come from different countries and cultures. A lot of you would probably not sell your N12 or take it to the car wrecker because it's an "old crappy Japanese car", unless you _absolutely_ have to. Long live the N12! ^^

I have a lot to learn about the N12 and cars in general, I've already learned quite a bit from you guys! A common mechanic wouldn't know half as much about the N12 as you guys do, I hope this forum stays up and running for many years to come!

FYI: My posts are rather long, I'm not used to forum posting even though I am an IT student :P. From now on I'll try to keep my posts a bit shorter.

I've finally got my hands on some E15ET parts. I've bought an E15ET intake manifold that has 270cc injectors from CA18ET and a Ford Sierra throttle body. I've also bought a E15ET black rocker cover (that is paintstripped and polished), and a set of Cherry SGL seats, those are the same as the Cherry Turbo seats but they don't have the turbo text on them.

Ok, I'm not going to be able to build a complete E15ET yet... because I can't afford it right now. But I've at least started gathering parts now. 8)

Enjoy the pix!

Thanks m8! Just being a bit nervous of how long posts moderators and other forum members will tolerate, I guess. I keep over-explaining everything.

Cheers

I might have some extra parts for you, if we can agree on the prize, a ECU, the engine bay wiring loom and possibly some other stuff.

E15ET's are rare in finland, but i have two of those, + my m8 has one in his B11 Sunny.

the block is the same, only differences are the oil pipe outlet on the main oil channel and oil return.

conrods from a E16 are the same. pistons are awaible from Autokeskus @ 60-65€ a piece( three of them @ Nederlands, one from Japan 4-6 weeks). and the crank from e15 will do.

onnnea rakenteluun.

Thanks! I'll PM you about the parts.

I have an extra E15 standard engine that I will rebuild (when I can afford it and have the time) for this E15ET project, it's nice to know that the pistons aren't too expensive and that they are easily available. The E16 rods might be hard to find, but as I said, I will not build the E15ET engine rightaway, have to save some money first. I have a lot of time to look for parts in the meantime. :P

Kiitos! Tästä tulee hauskaa :D

Here's a loose translation from Finnish for those of you that don't speak Finnish:
"onnea rakenteluun" -> ~ "good luck with the project"
"kiitos! tästä tulee hauskaa" -> "thanks! this is going to be a lot of fun!"

Cheers

A small update guys. I've got hold of the air duct that bolts to the intake manifold, and also the boost pipe. The guy that I bought the manifold and rocker cover and seats from, didn't have those pipes. It's a bit sluggish building an engine like this instead of buying a complete engine, but complete engines are not that easy to find up here. This is my approach to the problem. Bits'n'pieces! :lol:

Got the factory overboost relief valve installed.

This is the engine that is going to be rebuilt and converted to E15ET:

The block is a M2 and it's manufactured in Japan, it's coupled with the N/A 15M head. My newer E15S engine is manufactured in Mexico and has a 25M head.

Thanks m8! It will be a completely different N12 than it was before the restoration! I can't wait to see how the E15ET engine will perform in this baby once I've got all the necessary parts and assembled it!

The whole project will take a while longer than the average N/A -> ET + restoration project duration, since parts for these cars are very rare in Finland. For example, the rear springs took 6 weeks to deliver because they had to be ordered from a factory and then imported.

I hope the restoration will be done by the end of this year, so I can get the car back on the street. But the E15ET engine will probably not be finished until some time late next year, the E15ET engine project is on low budget due to the restoration costs.

It feels great doing this though the project is going a bit slow! And seeing all you guys perform all kind of mods and restorations gives me a lot of useful ideas!

Cheers
