Just tee into your heater hoses at the back of the motor.

Zactly what he said!

In fact, the addition of the watercooling would be a benefit to a daily driver as far as reliability is concerned

Yeah, probably true. Haven't thought of it that way (quite obviously :P).

I'm slightly reluctant to doing something that's not stock... I'll probably use stock parts like those boosted has shown here. But we'll see. I'm changing my mind 20 times a day now (as you all probably have noticed) so maybe I need to calm down a bit. I'm getting a bit overenthusiastic about all this. :D

It is stock on the Unleaded models and was an upgrade on the earlier leaded models M8.
Its a total no-brainer to fit up.

My thoughts exactly. :)

Thank you everyone! I know for sure there weren't any watercooled variants in my country so I'll have to import those parts from somewhere. Apparently they existed in Austria?

well, according to FAST, the w/c setup was factory equipped from 02/1986 on in whole europe(LHD).
but because the cherry turbo was only produced until 07/1986, only a small number of this variant may have been sold in this short period, and fewer of them will have survived until now ...
both my cherry-turbos were upgraded from their preowners to the w/c setup.
maybe because of your cold-temperate climate, fewer people (or even nobody) did this conversion in your country? ;)

I think nobody in my country ordered one with w/c so I guess there aren't any of those over here at all. I guess most of them probably are in Germany and the more southern parts of Europe such as Austria, Italy, etc...

Well, probably. But our summers can be up to 30-35 degrees for a couple of days... and around 26-28 degrees for several weeks... so water cooling would be of some use even in my country. :D

I'm not worried about cracking the turbo or the turbo water lines by having the coolant freeze during wintertime, because I always make sure I've got coolant that stays liquid even at -36 degrees. So I guess it's safe to equip mine with w/c. :D

Cheers

The project is coming along great! Im sure you'll get through the engine modz with ease. Hope you spool up soon :)

Hey Jan,

Have you talked to a turbo specialist?? ask him a few questions about w/c in your country.

Thanks M8. Yes, this will be a lot of fun! Not a quick project but I think it's worth the time spent. And yeah, using the stock E15ET parts it'll definitely pass the "modification registration" since it's just an upgrade of the car to the next engine variant. :D

Heck, I'll start calling my N12 a "Pulsar" after the E15ET conversion because "Cherry" (which is the European name for it) makes it sound too "nice". "Pulsar" sounds technological and advanced and scientific. And personal. :D

Good idea! Well, I'm not buying those parts before I buy myself a turbo. And turbos are rather pricey so it'll take a while until I can afford one. But before that I'll consult a turbo specialist... there are many of them around but I don't know which of them I can trust.

How true. But the only thing I need to ask them is, if they think water cooling is such a bright idea or not. :P

Of course it it. No question about it. You dont need to call yourself a 'turbo specialist' to come to that conclusion!

Haha lol, I meant: "is it a bright idea to use w/c in the climate area I live in?".
