It's definitely a good idea to do; my engine runs a lot better now that the valves open up properly! 8)

I've had issues with heavy steering at random lately, and replaced the strut top end bushings, but that only made the ride smoother, the steering is still heavy at random. So I had to get another steering rack. I got myself one for free, the guy I got it from must be nuts. It has 130000 kilometers on it, and it feels smooth, no free play whatsoever. :)

Also got a wiper motor and a washer bottle for free. Both in excellent condition. Including the washer pumps!

Thanks for really trying to push me. J/K

You've made your point very well. But I noticed when cleaning up the rack that the boots aren't in bad shape after all. They look worse on the photos than they are. And I have cleaned them further since I took those photos. Also noticed that the boots aren't 25 years old, rather something like 7-10 years. They are still soft and firm and seal well. And they were even protected by underbody sealant. Which is what you see on the photos: underbody sealant mixed with dust and dirt. Yuk!

Ummm on that rationale, why not leave the oil in for 50,000k's between changes since the engine is still going and the oil looks "oily"????
PROactive is the key. Reactive = FAIL.
Your call.

 good point. I'll probably replace them soon. I wasn't expressing myself very clearly in my last post. I hurried to install the rack because I wanted to get rid of the steering problems right now instead of next weekend. Boots are easy to replace even while the rack is attached to the car. I'm not saying I'm not going to replace them, I'm just postponing it by a few weeks as I have too many other non-car related problems to take care of at this time.

And yes, the steering problems are gone now. Finally! 8)

Last month, I got a new set of tires. Yokohama S760, stock steelie dimensions. They are a lot better than the Nokia tires I had. :)

And today's update:
Image

New KYB Premium oil shocks, Lesjöfors (stock) springs, front control arm bushings. I'll put them on today. :D (hopefully, the ride height will increase to stock specs)

Bad news though: I can't get shocks from my country, few spare parts companies can get hold of a set and then the prices will be very unreasonable considering that I can get a set from Germany a lot cheaper myself. I got these shocks from eBay, from a company called AutoTeileMann. Seems that Kayaba is still manufacturing these shocks. They are on the retail lists at kayaba.de, which was a real surprise. Who would guess that a car this old still can be listed at retail parts manufacturers' sites!

These shocks only cost 106 euros, shipping included. The cheapest price I could get from spare parts dealers in my country was 150 euros, and that was a discount price. From now on, I'll be ordering parts to my N12 from Germany. :)

Yup, the ride height is now at stock specs! Gotta re-adjust my headlights now, I'm blinding just about every driver on the road.

Some pictures of the progress. I'm sorry I didn't take pictures of the bushings.

Ah, awesome! :D Great news!

How much do I owe you for the parts? Also need to figure out postage. (probably best to use PM for further discussion about the deal)

I recommend it! Check out http://www.autoteilemann.de and http://www.kayaba.de, gas shocks are also available for the N12 so I guess they have lots of N13 shocks as well.
