Ztealth's EXA

Post by Ztealth »

Name:
Paul

Location:
Gosford

Year/ Model:
83 EXA

Colour:
White

Period of ownership:
9 months

Performance:
6.3secs 0-100 (G-Tech). 1/4 mile - NA.

Engine Mods:
Standard motor/manifolds/injectors/ECU
Match ported VL throttle
Hi-Flowed T2
Turbosmart controller (9-15psi)
Shortened inlet piping
300zx intercooler/2.25" piping
3" mandrel dump pipe
2.5" mandrel exhaust

Interior Mods:
Power windows (no, not factory)
Pop-up sunroof
Boost gauge
CD Player
Turbo timer

Exterior Mods:
100% factory standard
(Have a look at the "DATSUN" badge on the back!)

Wheels:
Standard 13"

Other:
Remote locking
Immoboliser/Alarm
Window tints

Future Plans:
I'm not really into all the fancy chrome/polished/painted side of things
unless it has some practical use, so I intend to leave the body and
interior standard. I will have to add a set of rims to help the traction
issues. The EXA is performance orientated foremost. I have done all
repairs and modifications myself so far and enjoy experiencing the
results. I am currently sourcing some more parts for modifications which
I plan on doing in the next few weeks. I will post here to let you all know
how the modifications go.

It's different to my old NA n12's radiator, but who knows, maybe a different model?

No trouble with the windows, although the drivers side is a little noisy. They where installed by the previous owner who had the car for 8 years or so.

Don't really wish to reveal the plans for mods at this stage, except to say it will be a substantial upgrade from what it is now 8)

Yep - ET king is right, it's a NA N12 radiator. Purposely chosen because of factory mounts and so on. A different hose was all that was needed for the top one, and the bottom hose was made from two hoses joined in the centre. Very easy to do...

Yeah, the cooler is small, however I believe it is well suited/sized to the mods the car has. My logic is that being from a 300zx, with a 3 litre 6 cylinder twin turbocharged motor running twin intercoolers and putting out 300hp standard, that if we halve the motor size it suits the EXA quite well. The EXA is 1.5 litre 4 cylinder motor, nowhere near as efficient as the ZX motor, and if the cooler does a good job on the ZX, then would be well suited to the EXA. After driven hard, the cooler is cool to touch. Also, combined with short lengthed cooler pipes, lag with this setup is very minimal and purposely built this way which makes for a very street driveable car.

well your theory is ok for stock boost. but wind it up to 15 and ya asknig for trouble if u ask me. shor its better then having none but a cooler that small will be pritty restrictive at the boost level. as for lag. i have a big 600,300cooler and like 2.8m of cooler pipeing and i get no diffrence in throttel response as i would have no cooler.

as for the radiator. do u fint it overheats quicker then b4. if does it keep the temp at a good temp.

When driving it holds the temperature down below 1/4, no worries, even when driven hard. It's only when stationery that the temp starts to creep up a little...
