I feel a little dead in side, Like a relative just died, to see the passing of a unique ride.
It deserved to be in a art gallery on display.
Here is another blow to individuality and freedom.
Love the country but hate the rules.

bit of an update for ya's

got my studs in and head on tonight. had a bit of trouble working out the pre-load for the studs, so i just worked out the pecentage difference of three kits for other cars (4cyl turbos), between standard head bolts and arp kit, took the average of that, and applied it to mine (as they were not bought in a kit the torque was not specified)........ i didnt use arp moly as recomended, they say you can use motor oil, just the pre-load scatter varies up to 8 cycles. i just did 2 cycles, another will be done after the car runs warm for the first time, then again after 1000km, so should be ok....

here is the damaged parts

we also added an oil goove to the inside of the rocker arms (this was a test one) in an attempt to keep constant oil supply to the rocker arm feet and cam lobes, insted of the intermitent drip it gets standard. see how it goes, not to sure how it will affect oil pressure throughout the rest of the motor.

Initial startup is a crucial time for the cam faces and followers.
Its the ONLY thing in an engine that actually needs any running in at all.
many a camshaft has been munted at this time.

OK, I see you had double springs.
Did you have those fitted on initial startup?

If so then Id almost be certain that the damage occurred right after initial startup due to incorrect follower/lobe running in.

Im presuming you used moly cam lube on assembly? I actually use Moly-disulphide grease thru my entire engine builds, (except for pistons and rings) not just on cams!

Whenever using reground cams, the engine should be intially started on stock, or even lighter than stock springs and the engine RPM held around 1800rpm for at least 10 minutes.
Shut down, head torqued, heavy springs fitted and valve clearances reset and you should be trouble free.

Let me know.

jap n12 exas had them as standard, door mounted mirrors were available as an optional extra until 85, when there became standard on all models.
