do this sort of thing, but obviously flare it out to 3" a little further down so you can fit a wastegate pipe off the flange easy

The opposite of what the turbine side of a turbo does. Creating a little vacuum in the smaller pipe. Quicker spooling by helping to reduce exhaust backpressure. What's the idea behind flaring it out to 3"?[
Darren.
Race it.

That flare on Shanes pix might as well be a simple 90 degree butt as exhaust gas wont maintain laminar flow much beyond 8 or 9 degrees (16 to 18 deg inclusive).
The gasflow will detach at the diverge, reduce veloicity and tumble, doing nothing but creating turbulence and no scavenge effect at all.
This is what is needed there if a clean diverging cone is desired. Its the dump pipe on my VG30det during construction.
It diverges from 2.25 to 3"
No, I wont make you a custom headpipe!!! You wont pay what ill charge!!!!! Theres a lot of work in those things!...LMAO

180sx radiator not easy to put in requires modding or modding of lower engine stabiliser to fit......I dont recommend punching one either radiators win every time. Possum stomp YES punch NO
its not there to make it run cooler but to offer up some extra room , its just easier to move the original radiator forward

A long time ago (like more than 15!) I was talking with some Rally tuners for Galant/Lancer Evos and they made an interesting comment that I later found a reference for in a text book. It basically said that for a NA car exhaust you want a nice smooth pipe with no steps to maintain laminar flow. BUT with a turbo exhaust the exhaust gas has a strong vortex at the back of the turbine. So flow is not pulse based and laminar. This means that smooth pipes will allow the gas vortex to continue long into the pipe and and the path of each gas particle becomes much longer, increasing the "effective" length of the exhaust. The argument made was to put a step, trip or vane to 'burst' the vortex and reduce the 'effective' length of the pipes......
Haven't looked into this recently so don't know if there has been any more work to validate it.

just for argument sake, i got told by a top circuit racer that fitting a single core radiator out performs a 3 core radiator because the air can pass through it quicker, but thats on the track i wouldnt like to be sitting in peak hour traffic thoughAndroid 360 wrote:swapping the factory copper radiator for a single core aluminium one is stupid...
factory one would outperform it any day.
so no, no joke..
