Classifieds minimum postcount limit?

Most forums with a trading section have a minimum postcount below which you can't buy or sell stuff, in order to prevent arseholes signing up just to rip folks off.

I'm thinking it looks like we should implement that policy here. Do you guys agree? If by some chance this board lacks the feature, it can just be a rule; that'd work just as well.

Looking through the member list at the postcounts, 50 seems about right...

Other forums im on have the same deal and it does seem to work
plus it kinda stops free loaders getting a free add, least if theyve posted it shows theyve been around a bit and actually have interest in the site rather then using it for free advertisement
being a smaller site tho i think maybe posts above 25-30ish might be better

The only issue with this idea is it promotes rubbish posts to lift the numbers...so you can sell.

I proposed 50 posts cause that would be heaps more than the vast majority of freeloaders/scammers could be bothered with, but it might be a bit high, especially since this place has been kinda quiet lately...

But if it's say, 30, and someone comes along and just starts spamming to get postcount, it should be pretty obvious.

Like I said, it doesn't matter; it could just be covered with a rule.

Which could also state that spamming your way to the minimum will result in a ban.

30-50 should do it, PHP BB has software to facilitate this you can just use the forum permissions for the new registered user group then change forum permissions for those groups, and in an effort to reduce the spam, set a flood limit to 30 seconds or something, this should prevent them reaching 30 post before they crack it. But yeah, great idea for this, should bring down the majority of the problems.

The flood limit is currently five or ten seconds I believe, and it shits me to tears.

The way it's implemented on this board, it counts the submission of a quick reply as a post, then when you hit submit after it shows you a preview, tells you that you can't make another post so soon.

Same goes for edits. I often cop it when I quickly (attempt to) fix a typo. I reckon fuck the flood limit off.

If anyone tries that stupid shit on, it'll stand out like dog's balls anyway.

So I say ditch this measure which may be worthwhile on larger boards, but is just a redundant PITA here. Any dickhead who's stupid enough to try flood posting can be found out and banned, piece of piss.

Actually, come to think of it, the flood limit might serve to stop a handful of double-posts, but I don't think that justifies its existence. If the consensus is that that's precisely what does justify its existence, then I reckon the wait should be brought down to 2-3 seconds.

Yeah that's fair enough, and a 2 to 3 second flood limit should be put into action.

all this is too true,
but will these rules negatively affect new members.
people keen to do up there new ET.
does it make it too complicated.
I'm just wondering
For me, 5 to 10 post is plenty. but on the other hand, I'm not the type to screw people around.

Ahh bugger thats no good.

@Valentich - This is only for the classifieds section, such as parts, cars, etc so its just a precaution to prevent random morons from selling faulty goods or goods that aint there in the first place.

Also, Based on what Valentich said, I would leave the wanted section alone, that way ppl can come and find items which they need.

The rule should only apply to just the sellers (parts + cars), buyers or wanting to be buyers cant really do wrong so not use having the rule on them

agreed, as you said its not that big a forum so would take a while to rack up 30-50 posts so if someones trying to get a free add in a short time its going to be pretty obvious to there spamming

This is a great idea fellas.
Especially only having it on the seller's section.
I reckon 50 posts would be sweet if this is the case.
Cant imagine 50 making much of a difference to any1 that is on here as a genuine member.
