side play on rods

Post by nissancherryn12 »

Hi all,

So i found out my ET has side play on the mounting of the rods, i can move cilinder 4 up and down and to the left and right. I suppose i need a new crankshaft for this problem?

Does anyone know how this can happen? The plugs looks good, no sign of (serious) detonation... Oil was 10W60 full syntetic.

I hope you guys can help me finding out what could have happened. Maybe you guys know also what the maximum side play on a E15ET may be?

Cheers,

Rens

Not yet... But i took of the oilpan so i could check how it was from the downside. The rods from cilinder 3 and 4 has play, number 4 a lot. The crank itself looks to be in good condition.

Well you cant say the crank looks good because you cant see the bits that matter.
pull the rod caps off and measure up.
there should be some side play in the rods on the crankpis. I cannt remember how much. Look it up in the manual.

True, i think i also need a new crankshaft because it now probably is damaged because of the sideplay.

You can move the rods to the left and right and you can hear a KLAK-KLAK-KLAK noise. If you start the engine the motor makes also this noise. You can hear the noise comes from cilinder 3 and 4 when running.

Unless the rods are bent, they wont float from side to side.
If you can hear some clanging, then it will be either very bad piston slap or the conrod bearings are munted.

Only way to know for sure is to strip it.

Does sound likes something pretty buggered in there whichever way it turns out.
