can anyone help?

Post by EA-73-XA »

so iv still got an issue with my EXA.

seems to miss on cylinder one, but its still firing somewhat...

I removed a vac hose to spray throttle body cleaner and it ran slightly better...

If i give it a gut full of revs it will bog and cough and fart and backfire with a real bad flatspot... sometimes its ok...

but I have noticed a Detonation sensor fault...
iv disconnected it (in the instance of testing) with no change...

could the flatspot be the ignition retard the det sensor controls?

Have you tried just replacing the lead/plug? Im guessing so. How about the coil? Tested compression on that cylinder? Leak down test?

Check the clearance of your tappets on that piston

My car wouldn't even start coz all tappets where out

hmmm so I ran a compression test....

1st was pretty much fuck all at about 40!
2nd was about 100
I didnt do 3rd as it requires ALOT of fucking around with my manifold
and 4th was 120

iv got it running as we speak to heat it up so I can check the warm clearances....

thats....really odd.... I mean it runs, and sounds like a bit of a miss, but iv got no oil mixing....

If you've got low compression it could be because of the valves not sealing or it can be the piston rings in the bore!..Either way you may have an issue, can even be a timing issue..If its missing it could be a bad injector or bad wiring to the injector plug..faulty lead, faulty plug.Could be a number of things!..Do some trial & error & let us know what you've done

Im picking a valve... Your compression looks to be down a bit on all cylinders tho really... Maybe its time for a basic rebuild? Rings, bearings, new gaskets, hone the bores... Look at the head while its out.... Just the general things.

E

its funny you should say that, because Im having trouble locating TDC on the cylinder where BOTH arms are rocking,

thats EXACTLY what I thought...

i can only get the intake rocker to clear off....

heres hoping,

stay tuned

So then ignore that method and do each valve individually on that cylinder.
Just rotate the engine intill the cam lobe is pointing down and opposite the rocker tappet face.

your worth more money E,

idles crisp and clear

i know why it was like that now. I put new rocker gear in many moons ago (and didnt immediatly set the clearances as time was a constraint) and because It sat for months I forgot about it

warmed it, set every valve....
and booshka,

perfect

my own stupidity at its best, but the result is positive
thanks E,

and those who replied:)
