Having an electrical problem!

Post by Alex_S »

Hello guys i recently bought an 85' cherry turbo.

The problems i knew about it when i bought it was that the headgasket was blown, and that the only electric working in the car was the wipers and the starter engine, NOTHING else.
Completely dead besides that. And i thought it shouldnt be that hard to spot whats wrong as so many things dont work..
But it really is.

I have 12V to 1 black, 1 green relay on the fusebox, no power to ANY fuses though.

I've also checked all grounds ( i think ) they're all fine, checked the wires and made sure theres good contact.

Are there anyone that has any ideas to why it doesnt work?

Thanks, alex S :)

Try another ignition barrel, sounds something like no accessories or ignition switching is happening.

Hm yeah... I was just out and measured some

I have 12V to ALL contacts pretty much, lights, indicators, fuel pump etc.

However NOTHING works.

Either its the Ignition barrel, but then i shouldnt even get voltage to the contacts?
Or im just missing something really obvious

If you have 12v everywhere, you mustn't have a ground. (which is a little strange as you need the ground to get your 12v). Go back over the bay and check that you have a ground from the battery to the chassis and the block. You haven't done something strange and wired the battery in backwards?

Sounds like popped fusible links.
Located right near the battery.

It must be the " fusible links " by the plus terminal as
it looked like this

So first i fixed that wire and one more. And bam! everything works again!

So i figured i'd put back the dashboard and etc, and as im done with that. Nothing works. apart from the wipers, and starter.

So i figured i'd replace all the wires from the " main fuse/ fusible links " so i just cut off the contacts and just ran straight wires instead. Didnt put a fuse there as i was just checking so everything worked.. And like only half of the stuff works.

The wipers, starter, the fan inside, the fog light lamp on the dash.
So im still trying to fix this.. hmm..

Problem pretty much solved, only got some problems with not being able to shut off lights and the indicators not working like it should. Shouldnt be too hard to fix. ;)
