Gearbox grinding noise

Post by TurboZ.Dude »

Hey there guys. I've got a problem with my gearbox: I hear a grinding, sometimes knocking sound at idle. And it disappears as soon as I push the clutch pedal. The sound may change or disappear when I disengage and re-engage the clutch. Could I be looking at a worn down input shaft bearing as a result of a worn down pilot bearing? Would the knocking sound be caused by a 'loosened up' centerpiece of the clutch disc because the input shaft is wobbling or something?

The gears don't always engage nicely but I haven't had any extra noises when I shift gears or anything, and the gearbox does shift smoothly most of the time. The clutch feels very good and doesn't slip.

Thanks in advance!
Jan

Indicates insufficient endfloat preload on the input shaft bearing.... As a rule!
Usually goes away when hot.

Yes, it does actually go more or less away when the gearbox gets hot. So how do I adjust the endfloat preload, and what exactly is that?
