how much boost?

Post by ctchme »

hey guys, just after a bit of help regarding upping the boost on my exa, running e85 fuel, 550 cc injectors, 040 pump, 450 x 300 x 60 intercooler and a 2.5" exhaust. How much boost would i be able to safely run with stock internals?
1984 Exa, T2 turbo, 8psi, adjustable fpr, 850cc injectors, megasquirt 2 ecu, E85 fuel, black dash, black boot and bonnet, 14's wrapped in 215/50 BF Goodrich tyres

Stock internals will take whatever throw at them, you won't break anything with boost. Get mixtures, revs or oiling wrong, and they will damage any bottom end.

What turbo are you running?

With that setup, not a lot more than stock. Say 12 to 14psi.
Injectors are only just enough.

As you probably know E85 has a lower potential energy per ltr than pump fuel, to the tune of 30% more of E85 to make the same as petrol. Pump fuels make in the range of 140-150kw ltr/min, so E85 will make 105-115kw ltr/min. If you indeed have 550cc squirters and a pump which will keep your base pressure at full flow, there should be enough for 230-250kw (at the engine) at 100%dc. Knock that back by 10-15% for ATW, 190-210kw, then don't exceed 85% dc = 160-180kw ATW.
Considering you can make this power with pump fuels, I would think the switch to E85 would put you past the 200kw goal, so 650cc injectors at a minimum for the hassle.

How much power do you want to make?

For using the stocko T2, there is next zero chance that it will flow anywhere near 200kw, let alone 120kw without being the mother of all potatoes in the exhaust!
