Starting issue after engine swap

Post by shane_90 »

Ok i pulled this motor out of the car then put it in the new car, i left the loom on the motor.

Motor is now in an all hooked up, i turn the key an it primes as per normal, go to start an it just turns over but wont start,

I done some problem shooting an i believe it has something to do with the injectors, if i put fuel into the spark plug hole then try to start it it will run for a few seconds then stall..

It has the egi intake any other info just ask.
Motor ran fine right up till i took it out.

starting issue

Post by poeticjustice88 »

i am guessing you have checked that the fuel pump is actually pumping?

did you hear the engine running before you did the swap ?

make sure there are no blockages in fuel line/rail

if you have a noid light, it will be able to test that the injectors are pumping, or at least getting a signal to pump.

it is usually something simple. only because the big things that go wrong, usually jump right out at you man.

sorry i cant be of more help

There is definitely fuel flowing from the pump,, the motor was running minutes before i started removing it.

Im thinking its the injectors not getting a signal to pulse / flow fuel, because i put fuel in the motor threw the spark plug hole an it ran for a few seconds.
Just not to sure how to test them etc

test light is your friend.
Check you have 12v across all injectors via the dropping resistor.

How long was the engine out? Maybe the injectors are clucked up with old fuel. That stuff can be very nasty, allmost like glue!

Okay, strange.... And you deffinatelly have fuelpressure? And did you connect the fuelpressurelines on the right way? I can imagine that it doesn't work when the return is connected on the intake.

I labeled everything that i could so i didn't get anything mixed up an also took pics.

Im starting to think that the injectors are blocked but the car should at least attempt to start, the chances of all 4 being blocked is slim

Based on what you have said, and using the process of elimination (and likelyhood) you fucked up the hoses to the fuel pressure reg. I bet the fuel pump screams its ass off when it primes too.

Not that I know jack, but what Damo says above is exactly what him and I went through with mine. Lines to the fuel reg were around the wrong way, changed them and off she went.

Dont forget to check all ya wiring. the wire that goes to the dizzy from the resistor off the coil. you might of knocked it off.

You have a fuel delivery issue.
So, either you have the fuel reg lines arse about face or you have a wiring issue at the injectors.
If the engine runs with fuel down its throat then the dizzie is connected and working.

Dont just "sawp' fuel lines around FFS.
KNOW which line does what.
The regulator lives AFTER the fuel rail OK?

In that bunch of metal fuel/brake lines, one is pressure from the pump via the fuel filter. Just turn the key with the lines hanging and it will be very very apparent which one is from the pump!

This goes onto the end of the fuel rail.

The other line from the fuel rail leads off to the SIDE of the fuel reg.

The last hose is fuel tank return and this leads off from the BOTTOM of the reg.

Off you go grasshopper and check your junk.

i had the same problem wen i toke my engine out and but it back in
what i did is pluged the dropping resistor in the wrong spot(in to the box next to it) swapped it around and it fired st8 up so check that dropping resistor is connections correctly

hope maybe that helps.

Car now lives, It would appear that the factory fuel pressure reg was faulty, hooked up the aftermarket one an it started straight away. Now all i need to do is get some better hose clamps to stop the hoses coming off
