seat mounting help

Post by ctchme »

hey guys, just wondering if the bar that goes across the car inside the cabin does much more than just provide a space for the front of the seat rails to bolt to?? and is it safe to remove them?

Its all part of the chassis m8. Take struural members like that out and your asking for trouble with floor pan flexing and legality of the car.

The less rigid you make the pan, the more prone the car is to scuttle shaking and other weird handling flaws.
Flexing around the windows and door frames...all sorts of shit. the last thing you want to do is further weaken and already too flexible chassis.
Leave it in M8 if you want your car to be anywhere near legal.

What you can do if your desperate to lower the seats is to remove them and replace them on the bottom of the pan. WOFTAM IMHO

thanks for the info tass, another question then, if i cut a section of it out, and ran steel bars around the seat, and welded them to the bar, would that provide enough support for the frame??

I agree with tass.

I know from crashing a N12 or two sideways in the gravel with handbrake that, that piece of metal is very important.

If you want to lower the seats can you do something with that mounts?

Yer be very wary of making changes to the structural members M8.
ANYTHING like that is subject to engineering compliance.
Not only can it significantly weaken the chassis but can render the car worthless scrap in event that its inspected.

Cheers
