Radiator issues

Post by 84ETPULSAR »

hey guys

the car is almost finished with the turbo upgrade etc, just getting dump pipe and a few extra pipes made up at my mates exhaust shop, now he reckons that the turbo is way too close to the radiator, and if my engine moves too much under load, its gonna smash into the radiator......which is bad

now when my dad and i were working on the car at home, we dummy fitted the turbo etc, and we had to move the radiator forward as much as we could, we took of the original brackets and slid it forward as much as it would go.

so now I'm being told even that was not enough for the GT2560 to fit safely.

what should/can i do to fix this? i was looking at a PWR radiator for the N12 EXA's, but im wondering if thats actually any slimmer.

also my mate reckons that custom radiators arent that expensive.....

so i dunno, im leaving it to you guys to shed some light,

cheers

hey mate in my n10 i had the same problem so i just moved the radiator to the other side of the radiator support. just had to have the filler pipe moved which cost like $30. might be worth a look. only drama was i couldn't fit a front mount.

yeah thats the thing, ive already got the front mount AND A/C, so any movement causes a huge chain of problems.

ive done some reading and now im waiting for E to tell me not to replace the original radiator, because is a kick ass triple cored beast.

i am taking that advice, but this just means i have to sort the problem with the original

any thoughts?

LOL
How close is the turbo to the core?
Also high or low mount?

Even if you need to 'lightly modify' the radiator to get your clearance it would be much less fucking around than swapping things over! As a start anyway.

ha ha yeah i read up on radiators on the forums,

"ally is 30% less efficient than a similar sized copper" haha

its a low mount and from memory the turbo is about maybe 10mm from the core.

there could be more room to be had moving the radiator but it just seems it physically wont slide forward anymore, like something is stopping it.

Damo, what do you mean by "lightly modify" the radiator, like the core itself? or the brackets etc??

cheers boys for the help,

Just drive it, I reckon... plenty of folks here have 10mm or less...

Might bash into the radiator a bit sometimes... if it starts to make a mess, you can just get a divot made in your radiator, I spose

Mate 10 mm is more then enough clearance. I have 2 mm clearance whihc is okay for now but i did braze a copper plate on the fins to be on the safe side as it would most likely hit the rad when i launch the car etc.

I reckon 10 mil is plenty.
The engine rotation that far down will not be enough to trouble you i dun reckon.

The turbo is below the mounts right? So really the turbo would move back more?
