Need some advise Today is the day(at last)

Post by puffypuss »

Hi
Finally putting my 60mm TB on today (saturday) and also a Fuel Pressure Regulator (pics l8r)

Only 2 questions

1. How much fuel pressure should I be running at?

2. Will the TB make much differance??

I'm toyng with the idea of a GT28RS now after Paul Smith's post

Answers.

1: Stock
2: No

The stock fuel pressure @ 0 manifold vac is from memory (please correct me if Im wrong guys) 38 psi

The standard TB will happily flow in excess of 400 horsepower so adding a bigger one will do nothing for performance.
What it will do is make you feel like its going faster as for a given amount of throttle opening, you will pass much more air.
But, the stock 44mm TB is not a restriction on a 1.5 ltr so outright performance will remain the same except it will feel mighty firey on small throttle openings.
Some snoozer on the old list was going to do some subjective testing with a VL TB and was going to set the world on fire with the fantastic increase in HP he was convinced would occur. The silence is deafening.

Hey, whatever you do, don't blame me. I was just passing on an opinion. Remember that turbo is suited to a substantially modded engine. I think the opinions on the 400 HP GT25 are probably right and I might lean that way myself down the track. It's cheaper too. :)

the reason why so many people fuss over them is exactly the reason evan pointed out.

Because the throttle body is larger.. full throttle on the stock one may only be 60% throttle on the VL one so people think they are going faster at a lower throttle position. :)

All done !
Ill post the pics in the morning.

Its strange it doesn't feel any faster but it gets to 110mph faster than it did on my test bit of road by about 100 feet??

She feels alot happier though and ive removed the "log" and it idles smoothly now and looks alot neater under the bonnet.

BIGGER TURBO next on the agenda!!

Anybody know of anyone who can make me a tubular exhaust manifold for a T28???

T28 bolts to the stock manifold.
Dunno about dumps tho.

Other T28 users can get in here?

They make steam pipe exhaust manifolds in 3 variants.. and also a custom intake manifold.
