i just got my engine machined and all balanced, yet to find out how it goes.... my bastard twin took it for a spin the other day, grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr (with an extra rrrrrrr, i'm really angry) angry cos he got to drive my car before ME, but on the other hand he said it was smooth.

And NO I'm not asking him to rev it past 8k, (if you wanna know you'll have to wait for me to try it out)

Sweet, let me know how it goes and feels. We definately want to get this done since it will be revving alot especially the way i drive, and knowing myself i will end up attending alot of track days. Better safe than sorry i always say.

balance

Post by dexi_styles »

I'd recommend it, after speaking to a mate he told me that it will rev harder and smoother.
think of the crank shaft being out of balance. just the slight bit of vibration, will cause a bit of damage there. especially when you're reving high.

I spoke to a guy in a Swift GTi race car (runs 10.8 !) (Dave Homer) at the Mt Cotton hillclimb last Sunday who has the latest JDM STI turbo on his 1.3L ! says it is great. obviously a light assembly with 1 or 2 titanium wheels and is twin-scroll which I am yet to read more about.

but i did rev it up to 6.5k on the way home from the pub, no probs. but i still need a wheel alignment.

Back from the dead!!! Haha. Wow this took alot longer than i expected. Here is the list of mods:

Ported and polished head, over sized valves and springs.
Camtech reground mild-lumpy cam
Block bored out 40 thou
Custom 40 thou over size forged pistons
Custom forged rods
Fully balanced engine
Cometic MLS headgasket
Custom stainless intake manifold with RX7 550cc injectors and VL throttle body
Custom exhaust manifold
Rebuilt VF35 turbo
E16 crank
SARD fuel pressure regulator
Dual Bosch 044 fuel pumps
3 bar map sensor
Microtech MT8 ECU
3.5" turbo back exhaust
Custom intercooler and piping
Custom alloy radiator

With the oversize bore and E16 crank, the capacity is estimated at 1.7L

If ive missed anything, ill come back and add it.

Havent tuned it yet, turbo was only installed last week. Its going in for a tune in the next week or 2. Also getting a new paint job, will have pics and dyno sheets up soon enough :D

Cant wait to see how this thing goes.
