Post by exanator »

im running a (brand new) gt17 turbo ar .53 front and .48 rear (originally off a 2 litre saab 9.3) and full 2.5 inch exhaust straight off turbo.

also 300x280 intercooler.

also ive rec'od my head. (pistons n rings seem to be in great condition)...no blow by and bore's were all clean when head was removed for reco! originally engine has 150 thousand k's

have boost gauge and gfb boost controller!

ive put it up to 9.5psi(b4 i reco'd head) comfortably but wanting a bit more boost???
im currently on 5psi for the first 500k's of running in the head but once that happens i wanna up the boost!! any info or suggestions due to experience would be much appreciated!

Don't do it without an intercooler.

I think just the cam needs to be broken in but wouldn't take that long. Honestly i never did anything after i got my cam regrind. Just put the supplied lubricant on it when i installed it and adjusted all the tappets after it warmed up.

Anyway 12-14psi would be as much as i would go.

When I got the heads on my old V8 done, I had to drive it for a certain period (can't remember how long) and then take it back to the mechanic for him to check clearences and head bolt tensions.

Probably about the same as the t2... 10-12psi will be ok without in IC, any more and you will be getting into the danger zone.

Get an intercooler dude... if you really are serious about getting into boost you have to have one.

I'm pretty sure cam run in involves not revving the ring out of it for a while.

i wouldn't run 14psi with the stock ecu, especially with all the new work you have done to the engine, do you have a malpassi? id run it at 12psi with a cooler, better to be safe than sorry. but thats my opinion only.

well it aint that much of a modification to put bigger cooler!!!

jst not sure about the hassle of it and whether there would be a difference!

so 12psi is it aye!!!

also i dont have a malpassi and am not sure how they work to be honest???

any light shed on the MALPASSI unit would be fantaatic as i know they regulate fuel to a higher extent due to higher boost but not sure on installations etc....
